I saw bits and pieces of Event Horizon on the old satellite dish when I was probably 6 or 7.
Sure wish I didn't have eyes there either, lady.

Fire in the Sky. Hoo boy I still get the willies decades later.
Wizard of Oz.
To my credit, I was afraid of the tornado and tornados are fucking real and scary.
Ok let me get my glasses:
...And many more.
Jaws. Was scared of the beach for years and couldn't sleep with my arm hanging outside/over the bed for like, 10 years haha.
Kinda late but Neverending Story.
Those laser beam statues scares me. Also when the giant turtle emerges and you get that shot of it la head slowly approaching the camera. Somehow that was super distressing to me.
ET. I’d have nightmares so bad that my dad had to sleep in my room because I was so terrified of him (I’d dream he was walking on my bed). He still freaks me out!
Oddly enough, I had nightmares about turning into a dog and not being able to get back to normal after watching Shaggy D.A. Also remember my dad, brother and I watching a rented Betamax copy of American Werewolf in London in our little unfinished basement TV area and being very spooked about being alone in the dark that night. Those subway access tunnels!
5 year old me was not prepared for Mr Toilet Man in Look Who's Talking.
As a fundamentalist Southern Baptist, Ghostbusters terrified me.
I saw it again in my early 20s and was like - this scared me???? WTF?
It's a comedy stretched over the bones of a horror movie.
Makes sense a kid might get spooked.
That horrid clown doll that sat at the foot of the bed in the boys room scared the heck outta me. I had one of those shitty things!
So Poltergeist.
Can't sleep, clown will eat me.
That motherfucking dog in the intro of Goosebumps. Give me a grenade launcher. Please?
Twilight Zone movie.
The kid that the whole family is shit scared of. One scene about being quiet.
Sybil 1976 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075296/ The Entity 1982 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082334
Both supposedly based on true stories. I was watching them around 5 years old. After The Entity I started at the ceiling all night and at times could have sworn I saw electricity arcing. I was dumbfounded by Sybil and how someone could do that to their child had some weird nightmares from that for sure.
The Evil Queen disguised as an old lady in Snow White
I used to have nightmares about E.T. standing at the foot of my bed, reaching out to touch me with his glowing finger. He was essentially my sleep paralysis demon.
I was a bit too young to see Arachnophobia when I did.
Tales from the Darkside, specifically the Cat from Hell sketch. It's where a black cat slashes a guy pretty badly before literally diving into him. I left the room after that.
I didn't revisit that scene until I was an adult, and let's just say that kid me had good instincts, since the scene afterwards showed the cat literally burrowing through the guy before popping out of his mouth.
Fire in the Sky. Way too young for the honey scene.
Earnest Halloween scared me more than anything else.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
I was too young to watch that. I couldn’t look at eggplants afterwards because they reminded of the things the aliens hatched out of.
I basically grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, and I've been a night owl since I can remember. When I was in early grade school, probably second grade, I was up late and excited to find a cartoon being aired in the middle of the night. It was the animated rendition of Animal Farm.
It freaked me out, but it also planted a seed. I wanted to figure out what that story was, and it led me to explore other classic literature. I'm grateful for that.
I watched the first 10 minutes of Friday the 13th then shut it off because I was too scared. The Jason in my mind was more terrifying than any of his movies.
The Omen. An absolute classic.
Also Nightbreed.
Anton Bartok in The Fly II being turned into a hideously deformed lump of flesh that could barely move and is forced to suffer in a cage eating slop. Yes, he was an evil bastard, but the body horror of being in that position still haunts me.
Watched "The Birds" on TV as a kid and it freaked me out so much that I had to look under my bed every night for a few days to make sure there were no sea gulls under there.
for some reason, i was terrified by the 1989 batman vhs sleeve as a kid. not the movie itself, just the sleeve the tape was in. i don't think i'd even seen the movie at that point. looking at it now, i cannot figure out what i found so scary about it.
I think I can say Dumbo's satanic ritual scenes, since I still remember those.
