What kind of shitty reporting is this. "Passed too close" to describe someone who drove towards a group of cyclists to bully them and seriously injured one of them?
"I didn't do anything wrong!" Insists the driver who got road rage and nearly killed someone with his car.
Make him watch that video every day he's in prison
What a shit article. The video shows him clearly endangering others for no fucking reason. He had plenty of room to pass safely, but chose to cut it close whole laying on his horn. He deserves the charges and absolutely zero sympathy.
I shot a bullet that went too close by someone and now I need to go yo prison! I didn't do anything!
Passed too close or collided? One seems like a fine and one seems like prison time, two quite different level of crimes
The article contains video evidence of the driver aggressively honking then starting to pass with basically zero space to the group of cyclists, then colliding with one cyclist who subsequently crashed. The cyclist got injuries to his vertebrae, but has thankfully made what appears to be a full recovery.
The driver seems to be under the delusion that he did nothing wrong, and that he will "take it all the way to the supreme court".
I think imprisonment is arguably warranted here.
On an atomic level, the car molecules never actually touched the cyclist molecules due to the strong nuclear force repelling them. Therefore he just passed extremely close to them.
I shoulda been a lawyer.
Objection! Your honour, it's not the strong nuclear force that repels atoms from each other but the electromagneticweak force from the atoms' electron shells that repell other objects! Also a collision isn't when atoms come into contact with each other but when they approach each other with sufficient force that the repelling force transfers momentum to those atoms, making their overall velocity harder to maintain control of and/or disrupting the solid structure of one or both objects involved.
Believe it or not, but in official court proceedings and documents, lawyers are officers of the court, and as a result, are not allowed to lie.
(I feel like I should mention, just in case people don't realize, that all of the scientific facts Agent641 mentioned were false. The strong nuclear force is the binding force that keeps the atomic nucleus together. It doesn't repel.)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the electrons who, orbiting around the atoms, repel each other since they're all magnetically negative?
Close passing, attempted mass murder, who knows?
“He hit my fist with his nose”
If the collision was 'accidental' and he didn't flee the scene, there will be zero prison time.
Passed too close leading to collision? He passed like. Three inches away from the bicycles, and one of the bicycles ended up hitting his car. Probably because when a big ass car passes that close you get sucked into it.
Point is, it wasn't a bowling pins type situation where you could clearly call it attempted murder, but he definitely fucked up.
A collision is almost never bowling pin situation, and if he came from behind and the cyclist got hit it doesnt matter if it was from suction force or pixies pushing the bike, the vehicle from behind is responsible for a collision and is not a "passing". At least here in sweden. I tried to be a bit funny and reinforce the title of the post :)
One is a "your* car should be impounded permanent and your drivers license revoked" and the other is prison time.
*doesn't matter who actually has the title; the car the was being driven.
So if I let a friend borrow my car and he does something stupid, I should lose the $50,000 machine that is absolutely critical to my employability?
Calling threatening people's lives as "does something stupid" seems pretty weird.
I mean... Yeah. It's really fucking stupid, if you'd like to elaborate more. The vast majority aren't actually trying to hurt anyone and think surely they're special enough to pull it off. That's stupidity, not malice.
This is how it's actually done in denmark. I guess your friend would owe you $50,000 in such a case.
https://les.dk/en/news/reckless-driving-new-rules-big-consequences
In March 2021, Denmark introduced new, stricter rules for reckless driving. This means, among other things, that a vehicle can be confiscated – even if it has been lent.
That's kinda fucked up for a loaner. I could see it on a second charge, maybe, like you loaned it once and didn't learn your lesson so they kept it the second time. Or maaaaaaaybe if there's a charge on them so it happens to them next time regardless, but god damn would it be shitty to lose your car because your friend just... Didn't say anything about it before they took your car.
I mean, the list of thing you have to do to be subjected to this is not very long and easy to avoid. You wouldn't want anyone to do this using your car, with confiscation or without, as it could just as well mean your car getting totaled in an accident:
Violations of the Criminal Law
- Negligent manslaughter under particularly aggravating circumstances.
- Negligently causing significant harm to someone’s body or health under particularly aggravating circumstances.
- Wilfully causing imminent danger to someone’s life or property.
Violations of the Road Traffic Law
Particularly reckless driving.Speeding by more than 100 per cent when driving at a speed of more than 100 km/h.Driving at a speed of 200 km/h or more.Driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of more than 2,00.
I fully agree, I'd be furious to learn someone I'd loaned my car to did anything that would trigger the law. I just don't think it's fair to punish the car owner unless they had good reason to suspect it would happen. It's potentially financially devastating to someone who just tried to help a friend with less.
Yeah no

Reading mode. Nasty of them 😠
Just post a mirror
Somebody has further down this thread.
I could access the article fine with the extension Bypass Paywalls Clean
Try it with other things, "A Georgia gunman's bullets caught on video colliding with a group of cyclists..."
Does it sound like it should definitely be a crime? Then it should probably be a crime with a vehicle too.
Well did he just throw the bullets at them? Turns out words have meanings and can manipulate people to think one thing when they mean another.
This article says two completely different things “collided” and “passed too close”. Both are pretty bad, but one is clearly worse than the other.
Fuck that article/website as well.
Let's be honest, he was doing the world a favor
