Tempus is an open-source and lightweight music client for Subsonic, designed and built natively for Android.

AI Disclosure:

  • Implementation - Assisted (many contributions use ai)
  • Testing - Assisted
  • Review - Assisted

This app works with any service that implements the Subsonic API, including:

https://github.com/eddyizm/tempus/releases/tag/v4.31.0

My last release post was for v4.20.0 so I've included what's changed across recent stable releases up to v4.31.0.

What's Changed

Highlighting major features added over recent releases:

  • feat: UPnP and DLNA streaming & control — Play directly to UPnP/DLNA renderers on your network, control remote player volume from your phone, and cast seamlessly.
  • feat: Parametric Equalizer & AutoEq Support — Import AutoEq profiles for custom headphone/audio profiles, plus improved equalizer stability.
  • feat: Continue Listening & Queue Management — Resume playback where you left off with a dedicated home section, modern player queue sheets with summary and quick actions, and fast playlist queueing.
  • feat: Custom HTTP Headers — Support custom HTTP headers per server configuration.
  • feat: Downloads & Syncing — Added fast scrolling to download views and automatic playlist download synchronization with the server.

And a ton of bug fixes, performance improvements, and updated translations across many languages -> Full Changelog: https://github.com/eddyizm/tempus/compare/v4.20.0...v4.31.0

📝 Note: Looking for Google Play Testers!

Tempus is currently being prepared for Google Play and is in the review process. If you are interested in testing early Google Play builds and helping out with feedback, please let me know—testers are greatly appreciated!

Release Notes app-tempus* <- The GitHub release with all the Android Auto, Chromecast, and media features. app-degoogled* <- The IzzyOnDroid release built without any Google dependencies.

As usual, any dev contributions appreciated as I am not actually a java/mobile dev, so my progress is significantly slower than those who do this on the daily.

Big thanks to all the folks who have been contributing.

Since your last post, a few rules have been added, specifically adding the appropriate tag in the title, and an ai disclosure if required (and with Claude as a contributor, it is).

Please take a look at rules 7 & 8 and update accordingly, then send me a message.

Edit: all updated and unlocked

Thanks and glad to hear! Yeah, it's been over a year now and we have made a LOT of progress. Still a lot to do but now I got a good amount of contributors where we are moving a good speed and hopefully continue to clean it up and add new features.

It's my favorite client for Navidrome. Pretty intuitive

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hint: it does not pop-up in F-droid if I search "Navidrome".

[–] eddyizm@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Thanks for pointing that out! I am going to update the f-droid description to include supported back ends!

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It does not support sso login. (Don't worry, very few players do.)

It's a bit annoyong that this project (and many others) is still using Microsoft's platform github for FOSS projects. I'm locked out of Github (I will NOT use a personal, identifiable e-mail address for github) and can't open issues or submit improvement requests there.

[–] eddyizm@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I'm going to mirror/move it to codeberg in the near future.

[–] ThreeKnew@lemdro.id 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

OpenSubsonic has an SSO standard? Which client+server do you use for that?

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is a thread about Tempus client. Login interface in Tempus has no SSO option. What are you talking about?

[–] ThreeKnew@lemdro.id 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Login interface in Tempus has no SSO option.

Yes, I know. You said that.

Since you're dissapointed about that, I figured there would be another client that does have support for SSO. I was asking you which client that would be.

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago

Alright! Sorry I was confused... I'm using navidrome as server and now that you point it out, my sso is actually at reverse proxy level so it was silly from me to expect a client with SSO...

I'm on Symfonium with Navidrome, but automatic playlist download sync is the feature that would get me to try an open-source client. Does it keep a downloaded playlist in step when a Navidrome smart playlist changes on the server?

[–] eddyizm@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

a feature to keep a playlist in sync with the server was recently added. It's not tied to a back end but should work with any subsonic server.

[–] fancy_pants@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So i can play directly to my kodi box hooked to speakers? I must try that

[–] eddyizm@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yup, check out the docs section, you have to enable the remote feature on kodi and both must be on the same network. It's pretty clutch I must admit. It's a feature I didn't know I needed until it was added.
