I'm so proud of them! They've been fighting every day.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 70 points 2 days ago (3 children)

As a hungarian this is amazing. We got rid of orbán, yall got rid of vučić, we have bright days ahead of us. Also with the bonus lula win

[–] redballooon@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Neither France nor Germany is learning anything from this.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Nope, its fucking annoying that when we finally get our act together everyone else fucks up.

[–] msage@programming.dev 8 points 1 day ago

But now the wester Europe might fall...

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’ve got bad news about Orban

Okay but trumps consideration in un chief selection is worth about as much as mine. The same way renaming some lake or gulf doesnt actually change its name, recommending someone for a position doesnt make that their position.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Two in 48 hours... nice.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 59 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You mean going out and voting rather than pointless posturing online works?

Lemmy lied to me

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 74 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Uh... I think the 2-year long mass protests might've had something to do with it. Less sarcastically, trying to reduce the Serbian anti-authoritarian struggle to "going out and voting" is not just factually bullshit but also frankly insulting.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Nah the wannabe terrorists keep telling me that voting is "useless" and pointless and that we need to get violent (including you btw). Why can't you just admit that you were blatantly wrong instead of being intentionally disingenuous? Both Hungary and Serbia have voted out fascists now.

Feeling a little called because you're one of those folks who pushes for violence online but doesn't even go to protests or vote?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

including you btw

Ah, yes, the famously violent example of MLK.

Both Hungary and Serbia have voted out fascists now.

If Serbia just "voted out fascists," then what were they doing for the past two years? Interpretive dancing?

Conclusion: This is completely unserious. Get a life.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, yes, the famously violent example of MLK.

You should go read a book called This Non Violent Stuff'll Get You Killed.

It's about exactly the use and pairing of non-violent and violent protest in the American Civil Rights movement. It doesn't support the reflexive "just be peaceful and vote" nonsense you're peddling, and trying to pretend is what happened in Belgrade.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You sure you're talking to the right person? I'm arguing against "be peaceful and vote" and telling off the other person for implying that's what happened in Belgrade.

Apologies, was meant for dreamkeeper.

Do check out that book though - the painting of MLK as willing to endorse non-violence at the cost of the movement is simply not correct. Non-violence was a strategy used in the mid-60s for a very specific reason, but liberals want to pretend it's the only way for any action to be legitimate.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can both vote and protest.

Those aren't mutually exclusive options.

If they protested, yet sat on their hands when asked to vote. We wouldn't be seeing this headline.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't move the goalposts the that's not what you said.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You mean going out and voting rather than pointless posturing online works?

???

You're going to need to point this out to me.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You clearly implied that the Serbians just went out and voted, not that they spent two years getting sent to hospitals and jails in order to even have an election to vote in. You chose to focus on literally the least consequential part of that series of events, thereby diminishing everything else in order to fit your agenda. It's like saying "see, the New Deal came because people voted for FDR" and neglecting to even allude to the literal decades American workers spent bleeding and dying before something like that happened.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

You clearly implied that the Serbians just went out and voted,

Which they did. That's kinda how elections work.

not that they spent two years getting sent to hospitals and jails in order to even have an election to vote in.

No i didn't. I mentioned online posturing, not real world action. the exact thing you're doing now.

You chose to focus on literally the least consequential part of that series of events

How do you suppose they vote someone out without voting?

And once again. I was calling out people who'll sit of their arse and talk about what they Would do, not what they're actually doing.

thereby diminishing everything else in order to fit your agenda

My agenda of saying that pointless posturing online without the basic action of voting is pointless?

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Exactly. These people have been holding the streets for literally years, being attacked by paramilitaries - so not your No Kings Parades. They didn't just vote harder for Democrats who are pretty much to the right of even Vucic.

Cu ti, glupane, ti ne znas nista @nuekenidenkenuken

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

That's not what Lemmy is calling for, and you know it, you liar. You just can't admit that voting still works because you've been agitating for violence like every other leftist bot online keyboard warrior.

That’s not what Lemmy is calling for

I wasn't aware Lemmy had a political platform?

you liar

Fuck off, my little coward.

You just can’t admit that voting still works

How's that working for you?

I mean, it seems your policy goals are just "get my team of blue genocide supporters in", so maybe on that level, it works. Some of us want actual change though.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 22 hours ago

It takes both

[–] quakki@discuss.tchncs.de -4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Democrats who are pretty much to the right of even Vucic

let me guess youre a us citizen

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

frankly insulting

It's always 'just vote harder' with these partisan assholes, who just kind of ignore the last 40 years of history since the Reagan Administration, and the geographical and political differences between the US and other countries.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Not all of Lemmy lied to you.

Just the .ml community.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

But their North Korean propaganda from a random Geocities ass website was so convincing.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

It definitely isn't just ML.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Him and Orban gone is what makes me a little bit positive these days

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Add Bolsonaro to the list.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

~~I would, but his son might spoil all that~~

Scratch that, another Lula win

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I just read that, great news!

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

If anyone wants to check out a great documentary on this movement look up A Serbian Film.

[–] okay_employee96@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

You're an evil person

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

You should be more subtle. Say it's about the origins or early phase of the movement to make it plausible.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Aww, Putin must be so sad to see his little flunky get ousted.

[–] silver@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Netanyahu is even more worried. Serbia was supposed to be one of the key allies.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope all these wannabe tyrants get removed one by one. East West everywhere. No one believes in their lies.

[–] Jimbel@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Unfortunately in France and Germany a lot of voters fall for the far right lies. The next two election in these countries will have a big impact on EU. Hopefully their citizens learn from Hungary, Serbia, usa and so on. But what I see as a german it does not seem to be this way.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

France isn't interested in what other countries do for the most part. These people think they can just ignore the fact that the far right is a massive failure everywhere they've been given power.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I'm definitely most concerned about France and Germany at the moment

I'd hope voters would see what's happening in the US and realize they need to vote against far-right authoritarians, but I'm not confident in that. Especially work current polling for AfD in Germany and Le Pen looking so strong

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The kids are alright

[–] TimboSlice@discuss.online 2 points 1 day ago

I wish my country folk weren't so brain dead and soft.
