I don’t know if this is the right community, but I suppose it’s close enough.

You can’t even make posts like this on Reddit anymore, Reddit has become such a hog on the internet traffic it’s ridiculous. It wouldn’t be a problem if Reddit didn’t take such precious internet space.

They censor people, regular people who aren’t even doing anything too controversial. Reddit’s automated filters constantly remove people’s posts, only conformist content is allowed there, and so nothing of value remains. Just generic conformist post after another generic conformist post.

Why is this platform still popular is honestly just beyond me at this point. No really, can someone please, please explain to me why do people keep using this broken website anymore?

I miss early 2000s internet before SM and corporations took over. Where each fandom had their own websites/forums.

I ran a couple back in the day. They were a pain in the ass to maintain. Can’t imagine the AI bots trying to exploit it these days

It's still popular because people are addicted to it. I only escaped because I replaced reddit with Lemmy. If you want people to leave, tell them about Lemmy.

The majority of people don't have any problem with anything you are mentioning. People still use Facebook and Twitter for fuck's sake...

Most people aren't very savvy with going outside normal areas, so they follow where others are. Unfortunately even after a few years Lemmy and the rest are still very niche and not mainstream at all. When Reddit first became ridiculous and the first people started looking for alternatives, Lemmy was just one of a number of potentials and ended up the bigger draw, maybe because it was the only one that could handle the sudden traffic. But this was a small part of the Reddit user base, the ones who knew enough to look around and find other places. Trying to spread the word to others on Reddit became a battle, otherwise I think we'd be a lot larger by now.

So why do people deal with how Reddit is now? I ask that a lot about other platforms, even hear it from family griping about how terrible places like Facebook or Instagram are, and yet they stay. People don't like change from familiar, even when it's difficult. And when they don't know of other places or how to transition, they'll hunker down even more and deal with it.

Anyone using old.reddit.com could easily jump to old.lemmy.(.. whatever.. I'm on .zip) and not miss a beat.

I sure didn't.

Well if you're serious about this than this definitely isn't the right community.

Reddit has better shitposts than this!

When my 50 year old sister started telling me how to use Reddit, i knew Reddit wasn't for me anymore

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You are speaking to the band right now. I only check reddit for the latest news.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

i visit the niches occasionally. look at the news, but never participate, no one should.

It doesn't take precious internet space, internet space is practically limitless (by the time ipv6 addresses run out we'll be well on our way with ipv7 or 8). It just takes as much space in your mind as you're willing to give it. Instead of highlighting something that's negative to you redirect that energy into building lemmy into something more positive

[–] trebach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If we run out of IPv6 addresses, there is either something wrong with how we are using it or our current understanding of the universe. There's 2^128^ IPv6 addresses and about 2^33^ people on Earth.

It does ,however, use real electricity and hardware. Which could be used for something else.

[–] five_bucks@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Probably the biggest resource being hogged is human attention. It’s a precious commodity.

Electricity can be renewable, but we only get so much attention per person.

Wrong community for this post tbh. Stop posting #general in #memes
