Take the money and run. Nothing good will ever come from staying.

They are freeing up operational expenses for cap-ex spending on data centers. My god, the idiocy is palpable.

Desperate days....

It is, but I'll honestly give Microsoft credit here. I have several friends who work there who are nearing retirement, and this is honestly the best way to do it. You leave with dignity, you get a fat check, and you get to retire early. I have a couple who have done it already. Honestly, as far as layoffs go, it's the best way to do it.

The only gotcha is if you choose to stay you officially know you're on notice, you probably shouldn't trust it. If you don't take it then tomorrow you could be shown the door with a minimal severance, or no severance at all.

I always thought that one day Linux would beat Windows. Now I see that this is impossible, and the only one who could defeat Windows is Windows itself.

That’s an insane number of potential people leaving - I wouldn’t be suprised to see entire departments gutted.

60,000 is something like 1/3 of the corporate workforce.

They should definitely get rid of 60K of them; probably more like 160K. AI can easly replace all of that and more. AI is more than perfect (according to AI), it's near perfect (according to AI, that's an upgrade from perfect).

Also, that's definitely going to be a winning plan for them. /s

enough for a golden parachutes, and more datacenter slop.

It is, but I'm guessing they know pretty accurately how many will actually take the deal, like 20k or something. Still an insane number, an entire town leaving.

Hmmm.... Millions? Billions?

60,000 x $100,000 (uneducated guess) = $6,000,000,000?
