Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

This is all fine until they say shit like "you never do anything around here unless I tell you to".

And when people constantly tell you "hey could you do this... could you do that" they never give you the chance to show that you would do stuff on your own as well.

Sadly this is what I think eventually broke up my last relationship. My ex was very much that, I wanted to show I could do things on my own accord but I never got the chance to actually do so and my brain in all of its fucked up ways refused to do all of that stuff less after being told to do so because it's further perpetuating that i can't do it without being told to first. And further down that spiral i went, deeper and deeper.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 27 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I eventually got over the feeling. My response is an "already on it" in the sense of a playful "i beat you to it", and I expect an "awesome, thanks" in turn. That way it's gratitude and support for each other - since that was the intention to begin with - instead of resentment for an unnecessary reminder.

Imo it helps to remind oneself that mental load is a thing and they're reminding themselves just as much as you. Getting ahead of the reminder consistently will eventually make the reminder obsolete and lighten the mental load.

[–] razen@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Yup I dont like to study what I am told to study but I like to study which I am not told or required.

I think fully half of the fights with my mom growing up was due to her telling me to do a thing, in the most naggy, demanding tone, as I was doing it

Worse: This, but with a fiancΓ©e... "Eurgh, you never do any household work!" "Seriously? Sure we can have that discussion, but like... literally while I'm vacuuming?!"

[–] scratchee@feddit.uk 12 points 15 hours ago

Urgh yeah, the absolute social misplay of using someone’s decision to be productive as an excuse to badger them about how rarely they are productive.

Like, this is human interaction 101, don’t punish good behaviour, bite your tongue and enjoy the win, save the discussion for when they aren’t being productive!

A lot of mine were me just returning from a different room, and the process of sitting down, and she says shit like "oh while you're up" or asks if I could get her something from the room I just returned from

Why would someone downvote you sharing your lived experience? Some people here are so strange.

Haters gonna hate.

Or I have a lemmy-stalker.

Me too, from autism

I wouldn't say it a true work-around, but my father has told us he will not do anything we *demand* of him, but if we make a *request* which he can turn down, he will usually be okay with doing the task. He likes being helpful and appreciated. A "request" from authority or with consequences if he turns it down, does not count.

This may not work for everyone, but it works for our family. And it only works because he's old enough to be near the top of family/social authority. He was a rebellious son and there was no workaround for him to obey his parents.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

Hey, could you get on that for me? Thanks bro

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (14 children)

I've literally just started calling my mum out on it. I tell her, "I was literally going to, but now I won't out of spite" so that she knows not to do it and that I'm just as petty as her when it comes to being told to do something.

It's actually started to help

[–] glibg10b@lemmy.zip 7 points 17 hours ago

For me, that would be a great way to get kicked out of the house

Autonomy needs a sense of belonging. So reassuring yourself that you made the choice before being asked.

...might want to keep an eye on the guy in red though. If he assumes your acquiescence too much you'll get "thwarted belonging".

I love guilt tripping so I'll easily hit em with 'what do you think I'm doing? fuck you' (last part optional ofc)

:
"fuck me yourself, coward"

When a tiny dog barks while you walk away, to make it look like it's the reason you walk away.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 17 points 1 day ago

Reason # 5,348 why I love living alone.

[–] Vince@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Im mostly ok with this, but when they start telling me how to do the dishes, that's when I lose motivation.

[–] gastroglizzy@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

.... well now I'm not doing it!

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago

This seems to only happen when it comes from people I actively dislike.
