It's quite a shame that the vast majority would rather stay on a platform that hates its users than come here, but I guess that's how humanity works

I think many people just don't know about Lemmy and all its wonders
Time to log out from reddit.
Hello guys, thats why I got Lemmy since I have read that today!
Im also new to here, how's this place?
We like to keep if tidy. Please take off your shoes at the login screen and close any country gates behind you. Pick up your litter and tell us a dirty joke.
A bit less active but you're not gonna get shadowbanned for no reason :)
Thats nice to know
It's smaller, it's slower, but it's pretty cozy.
Welcome! It can be a pretty fun place around here
Maybe don't hand out bans like a single old lady on Halloween. I got banned for saying we need to punch all Nazis.
I can log and read a source for some tech help, then leave immediately. If you want engagement, unban everyone and return to the wild west.
Investors won't have that!
Gotta be """advertiser friendly"""....
... Even if that means "human unfriendly"
Shareholders ruin everything they get ahold of.
“We’re making the change because it’s better for user experience, better for our ads business, is more in line with safety regulations, and more protective of Reddit data,” he explained.
According to Huffman, Reddit has grown to the point where personalization is increasingly necessary to help users find relevant communities and discussions.
In short- we can't datamine you if you're not logged in, we can't build a behavioral profile on people without accounts, we lick the boots of governments that'll demand ~~ID checks~~ age verification, and it makes it harder for AI bots to scrape the site without paying us. Really there's no downside to anyone at all, it's a win-win. Oh it's bad for users and bad for the Internet? Is that important? Those groups don't pay us, right?
Don't forget concerns about a safe Reddit experience!
"I padded your cell and locked the door, why don't you feel safe?" - Spez
Aka- need to be able to screen out advertiser unfortunately content.
Give it a few years and Redditors will also be speeing brainrot like 'he's gonna unalive himself with a pewpew'.
According to FediDB there has been a 1.7% growth this month. Meaning 244,051 new accounts have been created on fediverse on the past 30days. Almost 250thousand people in a month. I'm sure this is completely coincidental
how many of those are bots, because i knows bots/spammers are constantly making the accounts and not actual users.
Honest answer: Significantly less than Reddit.
Bots have no incentive to astroturf unpopular sites.
It's becoming a "fuck this I'm going somewhere else" experience.
As crazy as it may sound, Reddit is a treasure trove of information, especially when it comes to niche technology stuff. Would be a shame for them to lock it all behind accounts, and in my case age verification.
This should be even more incentive to diversify knowledge away from Reddit
yes that is true, i had to make a new account for the first time in 1year+since getting shadowbanned(apparently they lift or stop noticing for non-serial banned people. i had to ask niche questions recently.
