I stopped using reddit primarily when the 3rd party API blocking started. I had been browsing anonymously to lurk a few different communities for a bit after that, but I often left just being annoyed how much a waste of time it always was. I haven't been back since the blocked old reddit for anyone not logged in. Can't say my life is any worse without it.

I have an account that I use for my business over on reddit. It's really quite awful over there now. I was a longtime user, and then left the site in 2023 along with most other non-bots. It's safe to say that it's over.

Reddit is incredibly chaotic, and their systems frequently crash for no apparent reason. Plus, there are more ads than posts.

To be fair, Reddit has been Zombie Reddit for about 5 years now.

When they received $150 million from Tencent in 2018, the writing was on the wall. You cannot accept that kind of money and keep to the original aspiration. The IPO just accelerated it.

The amount of slop on there nowadays is wild! Even the smallest communities are being overrun with it and they don't give a damn because it is good for business short term.

For those of you who are interested and still want to go on Reddit for any reason, Redlib still works... kind of. My personal instance running Nachtalb's fork still works, but not sure for how long

There are still a small shortlist of public instances that are up, and ppl are pushing fixes that circumvent whatever shenanigans Reddit is pulling. Although, some folks are suspecting that Reddit SWEs are monitoring the redlib project with close attention & trying to shut down any workarounds the redlib team finds

On mobile you can still use RedReader to browse reddit anonymously.

I had an old reddit account from before they required an email address. After I commented about the Chinese genocide of the Uyghurs, a hacker used failed login attempts to flag my account, which triggered reddit to demand an email address. I took that as my cue to leave the site altogether.

Not much of a concern for me or anyone else who hates ai, but would this impact google ai's ability to cite reddit when it tells you to add glue to your pizza, among other things? because i like the poisoned well

The exact opposite of what Aaron Swartz would have envisioned for the site.

To anybody who needs to use reddit (for answer to some weird question someone posted few years ago) and they are blocked by "sign in to continue". Ublock origin works pretty well. I have fennec (fireflox clone) with ublock. Someone told me use the zapper of ublock when that pops up, it has worked for me well.

I was testing just now to see if it works and I haven't got that pop-up. It is possible ublock has already leveled up or I just didn't use reddit for long enough. It was without logging in.

Considering my account was banned, I guess I can't browse reddit anymore.
