Said CEO of a company from USA that started wars and killed kids. Fuck USA, fuck their AI companies, fuck them and stop using their products.

[–] Loce@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

At this point I'm wondering, does the guillotine needs to be sharp or should we use the dull one ?

[–] BigBrainBrett2517@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Dull af. And not quite high enough.

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

Notice how he isn't saying just that he needs more, just that he wants us to have less. This isn't a message for us, it's a plea for the ram manufacturers to further squeeze the supply and reinforce their monopoly for the cloud of the future where you just rent computing from them. I don't think so buddy, fuck off

[–] stateofaffairs@lemmy.today 4 points 12 hours ago

This guy deserves a run in with an Orca pod off the shores of the Azores.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Should be pretty easy to get Trump to agree to setting up another goon squad to go to people's houses and just take whatever computers they have. No compensation or legal recourse, of course. It's for the greater good.

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 2 points 13 hours ago

Yeah trust the opinions of someone who can't even use their true voice. .. Elizabeth Holmes wanna be

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 3 points 15 hours ago

Feel free to turn in all your electronic devices to the Omnissiah, Sam.

[–] oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Somebody kill this cunt on camera and threaten everyone profiting from it that they're next and man it. People like him deserve to suffer just for our amusement.

That's the livestream I would actually tune into. Make it a double feature with Trump.

We skip trials when literally everyone already has the evidence.

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Skip trials when we have all the evidence we need, before these genocidal maniacs send ICE to skip OUR trials

Something poetic about that

[–] njordomir@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This guy is really trying to piss people off with his stupid fucking ideas and acting like he should lead humanity into his vision of the future.

Apparently Facebook forbids saying you hope someone gets a disease, gets killed by a natural disaster, dies without a specific perpetrator or method, or gets smited by a deity or absence thereof...no joke.

Anyway, I don't want to step on the wrong side of our cyberlords /s so I'll just say this:

Fuck Sam Altman. I hope he sees that no one likes him, his ideas are dumber than AI generated slop, his parents left his stroller in the sun too long, and I hope he eats some South American beef.

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I hope he eats an illegally prepared fugu sandwich

With cone snail sauce <3

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

God that guy needs to be punched in the face.

[–] nwtreeoctopus@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

God that guy needs to be ~~punched~~ guillotined in the ~~face~~ neck.

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Certainly, but also needs to be punched in the face first.

Ok Sam, give your computers up first and then we will negotiate.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I hate the idea of Sam Altman not being in prison

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Rich people are safe and comfortable in prison, and their influence slips through the bars

I prefer putting him in a certain prison...

The prison that he had been in before he was born

Well then all the more reason to not pay for CrapGPT and run inference locally

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I use it regularly but only for free, in hopes that I contribute to the burning of their profits

Ask it some silly nonsense shit

[–] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

On contrary, we should run all our models locally.

So we'd own a basic terminal, and pay a subscription for our computing needs.

Gosh, who'd'a thunkit? Never saw that one coming.

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Especially not when he said how he envisions ai to someday be a utility like water or electricity, that everyone will pay for

Shocked, I tell you. I'm utterly shocked

[–] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 1 points 17 hours ago

He can pry my local AI out of my cold dead hands. My gpu is capable of running it and damnit i will run it locally

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So we'd own a basic terminal, and pay a subscription for our computing needs.

No.

We would rent a proprietary terminal that also needs a paid subscription to a computing service.

The problem isn't the AI, the issue is that the elites are trying to horde it and keep it from us little people. If we are to have agency, having personal ownership over local AI, collectively owned AI, and regulations, are all key to ensuring that democracy and egalitarianism is secure.

The elite will not willingly surrender power, especially there is a void that they can colonize. Ordinary people like us should fill the vacuum, to deny the elite from having total control over AI.

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I agree. Although I come from a relatively anti AI stance, I still feel obligated to protect our rights to use it freely

Sam Altman has lost the plot.

His own model of LLM isn't sustainable or profitable, where the local software model us.

And the economy isn't there just to make Sam Altman richer.

This is (another) Let them eat cake moment in which another spoiled aristocrat has lost touch with the common people.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah with open models catching up and giving reasonable results in consumer grade setups, they are gonna go full on with "unregulated AI is too dangerous we should only allow hardware gated LLMs".

It is so funny this guy is the CEO of a company called openAI lol.

I just read an article yesterday about a young woman who passed away after following the advice of an AI to stop taking her medication. I simply don’t understand why these capitalists are always so intent on monopolizing the market and controlling people. Are they truly so foolish that they always assume they’re right about everything—as if they were omnipotent?

So is he gonna redistribute his wealth? Cause ya know? Wealth hoarding is terrible and the people hoarding wealth (Sam Altman) should have to redistribute their wealth because that money could be better used to serve the people, right? In fact all billionaires and trillionaires should be engaging in wealth redistribution, right?

If we're gonna agree from a general consensus agreement POV why not make him give us his money because I mean if people owning computers is hurting the worldwide Ai industry, then clearly the wealth hoarding hurting the global economy can be solved simply by someone telling others to engage in redistribution, right?

I mean, he has a point. Hardware is used way more efficiently in the data center, and any sort of deficit is best resolved in a centralized system due to more efficient resource allocation. The same setup could be used like 2 hours a day for your personal needs, or 24 hours a day to serve many people.

THAT SAID, their greed and unsatiable desire to make the number go up by hooking us into subscription economy with ever rising costs is what led us here and it leaves us with little choice but to accept the less efficient way and host these things ourselves.

Remember the times not so long ago when self-hosting was an enthusiast hobby instead of necessity? Barely anyone non-geeky bothered with it, because what existed served people well. Now, having to build our own services remains the only sane choice, and the only way out of the nightmare Sam, among others, has built with his own hands.
