There must be an upper limit for how many things an individual can feel outraged about simultaneously. For me that limit is zero.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Or, more colloquially, how many fucks can be given.
I can understand a service getting more expensive at certain times as demand increases.
Has the price changed more for me than someone else?
Did the price change after my decision to purchase?
These would make me angry.
Convenience pricing?
My local convenience store is open 247365. If I need something, there's a good chance they stock it or something to substitute. I dont shop there all the time for everything, but when I need something I'm glad they're around and def not outraged.
One possible factor is the fact that some people call it “convenience pricing”. That phrase is doing a lot of psychological work. If we called it something like “surveillance pricing” or “extractive pricing”, then maybe we would be closer to outrage.
They are, they always have been, but they still pay it anyways
Yeah well, so my queation is: why is evwryone ok with their addiction and vulnerable position being taken advantage of? Kindasorta 🦧
Well, from what we see its mostly because they just have the money, those abusive tendencies of higher class’s businesses are just petty expenses. Then those with little to no money just see it as part of life expenses/a rare treat and for other things that they’re forced to pay for like for their car, housing and other expenses, it’s a grossing and over-abusive relationship that people just see it as necessities and are a must if they want to survive. Housing, water, food, connection aren’t conveniences, but it definitely is treated like one by the rich corpos. Which is wild af
Tldr, either you’re rich and it’s not that expensive or poor ppl are either a rare treat or it’s a necessity pushed by society (depending on the situation)
Anywho that’s our best attempt at explaining it maybe.
there’s a lot of things people in the usa should be outraged about. is this the top priority? How about the ‘bottom’ 60% of you not being able to afford food?
Wawa is just down the street.

ITT: people trash talking potential customers rather than being outraged at surge/convenience pricing that is going to start invading more and more things.
It doesn’t fucking matter if people don’t like Starbucks or they victim-blame because they didn't make coffee at home. Pricing to charge customers more based on whatever temporary metric is going to reach into everyone’s wallet sooner than you think. Grocery stores are already contemplating this. It’s been a thing for everything from Uber rides to airline or concert tickets for a while now.
