Other people's lives. I don't get why how other people live bother people. If they like the same sex, go for it. If they like to dress up as a goat on the weekend? Ok, cool. It's your life, do what you want with it.

I mean, yes, but I'd add the qualifier "so long as it doesn't impact others". If you want to dump your trash in a communal area, it's imo a bit too easy to say that it's a free country and who am I to tell you not to do that. Maybe this sounds too obvious to spell out (to me it would have until recently) but I recently met two persons in unrelated places who really felt that nobody should tell them what to do because they didn't tell anyone else what to do either. As if we don't all share resources on this planet

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I should've said that as well. So long as you're not causing harm to others, do what you want, like what you like, be who you want to be.

Literally any topic on which I have little to no knowledge. I can't have an opinion on a topic I barely know exists.

Whether or not the guy historically known as "William Shakespeare" actually wrote all those plays. For one thing, the plays were probably produced with a lot of input and modifications on the fly from the company itself, so already anything that Will himself wrote is going to have been significantly altered along the way.

For another, the historical Shakespeare is almost as much of a folk character at this point as Paul Bunyan, so anything we can "know" about him is what we can reassemble from the historical record after 400 years have passed, so it's all fairly muddied anyway.

Could just some guy have written those plays? Yeah, I think so. Could it have actually have been some nobleman writing under a pen name? Also possible, but doesn't meaningfully change the content of the plays or my feelings about them. In hindsight, if it was a pen name, the dude probably should have just bit the bullet and published under his own name, because now some glover's son is the Immortal Bard, and Edward de Vere is the guy that only the cork board and red yarn set care about.

Ever is ever was ever will be.

Most authors have (writing) editors, dramaturgs, script supervisors, and if you add designers, actors, (film) editors, music, directors, choreographers of movement, fight, dance and intimacy, producers, ratings boards, reviewers, testing, recording equipment, printing, everything changes it a little.

People's taste in food. Like pinapple on 0zza? Cool, like ketchup on porkchops? Ok. Don't like spicey foods? All good.

Same for me. Once I attended a chocolate workshop with this guy who was like a chocolate expert/connoisseur, and he started by saying "The best chocolate is the one you like."

So many answers for strong opinions on "do what you like".

A not-strong opinion is something like: ground pepper or cracked pepper? I recognize a difference, and I'd opt for cracked, but I really don't have an opinion.

Sales and discounts and haggling. People go nuts whenever something is cheap or queue up for free give aways and such.

I only buy stuff when I need it and I will gladly pay full price for something. Things get too cheap you know. I don't take free stuff, because it's just more garbage or takes up space.

This is not a strong opinion. Of course I like to pay less or get free stuff, but only if I need those things. That's what frugal means to me. I get that some people think of it in a different way of optimizing or gathering garbage for craiglist or whatever. It's just not for me.

Favorite color, book, movie, etc.

I arbitrarily decided green is my favorite color just so I could answer icebreakers without looking like a personality-less weirdo. But really, I don't care and don't really understand having a "favorite".

Books, movies, other medias, I understand a bit more but still don't have any of my own. I rarely re-read or re-watch anything. And the things I do re-watch (mostly Halloween or Christmas season stuff) aren't my favorite overall, just for the applicable season. I can't recall the last book I re-read.

Do you customize your OS of choice in any way? If so, do you find some color palettes are even slightly more enjoyable than others? If so, dial that slight enjoyment up a few factors and that’s what having a favorite color is like.

Which way to install a roll of TP. My natural preference is other than that of my family, so I shrug and do it their way. No big deal.

What goes on a hotdog. I've had people yell (literally voices raised vein popping yell) at me for adding anything other than mustard. I can't imagine caring that much about what other people put on their hotdog. I'm gonna add relish, sauerkraut, and ketchup thanks, you add just your mustard. Whatever.

The weather - I hardly ever check the forecast, I just take it as it comes. LGTBQ people/toilets/discussions - just the mention makes me fall asleep, they should just do what they want.

music consumption. what music you should listen to, how you find music, how much variety you should incorporate, what order to listen to music in, in what format, etc. for me, music is more of an auditory stim. I play the same song over and over. it's not really like, an art form that I am heavily invested in or relate to.

Food. Eat it and move on. Dont like it? Finish it for nutrition sake and again move on. I forget to eat often. Looked into a g tube but thats only if you dont have the ability to eat. What a drag. Cooking and cleaning 3 times a day? This design sucks.

I've definitely got my strong opinions about topics, but it's accompanied by a soft opinion that IDC what others feel about those things. For example I hate country music, I think it's trash, but I really don't care if other people enjoy it. I suppose I do carry a strong opinion that people can enjoy whatever they want as long as it's not to the detriment of others.

So when it's specific, I don't care what kind of phone you like, what sports team you like, what music you like, etc. I do strongly believe that everyone should be allowed to have those opinions though.
