I'm moving away from proprietary apps and want to find open-source games on Android that are genuinely good, not just time-killers or kids' titles.

My criteria:

  • Truly open source (repository available, ideally on F-Droid)

  • No ads, no trackers, no in-app purchases

  • Modern feel and polished experience — something that feels like a real game, not a tech demo

  • Made for adults: deep gameplay, challenge, real progression (any genre welcome — strategy, roguelike, RPG, racing, puzzle...)

I trust actual players over AI-generated lists, so: what open-source game on Android gave you the best experience, and why?

Fdroid has a bunch

Luanti is a pretty good start as it has a lot of content

That's a challenge for open source games in general even more so on Android. I can only think of Mindustry which was mentioned before.

Maybe consider to set up a Linux container, similar to what DeckDroid offers for SteamOS.

Here's a version on F-Droid.

Seems to be the same dev as the one you linked.

You won't find a long list. For one, check Mindustry.

Unciv, HyperRogue. HyperRogue can be addictive but difficult if you stay in one region.

Unciv is an open source 4X civilization game.

Endless Sky i put this game on basically every device i own lol. i guess it could technically be considered a time waster, the way i play (just take endless mission and ignore the plot) but there is a plot and its recently been more fleshed out. 10/10 would recommend being a space delivery guy
