Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1502 readers
58 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

You could easily make the call that I deserve this ban. But after Jordan lied about a user the other day, calling them transphobic to try and get trans people (and others) on his side as a cis white man, I just did not have the patience for him to start talking @ me about anything related to gender.

Not only that, but his reply in itself was a bit of* a powertrip in my opinion. I reported the bottom comment as "seems a bit attack helicopter-y?" mainly because that user seemed to have a posting history that indicated being a bit of an outrage merchant. I didn't necessarily want the comment removed, more than anything I was hoping to ping @ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone to keep an eye on the user. It feels like his reply was a bit of "I've seen this, I don't care and I'm going to show you that I don't care by replying to you publicly without acknowledging your report privately".

I'm also pretty sure I upset his feefees with my comment the other day here on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com and he jumped at the opportunity to ban me from somewhere. Yeah, I baited that reaction but come on, a permanent ban on a first offence? Yeah, alright mate.

I didn't even realise I was in a lemmy.world community, let alone one @jordanlund@lemmy.world moderates (god one of the other mods is PugJesus) or I pawbably wouldn't have participated. Going to have to go through all my lemmy.world comms now and unsubscribe I think. Can you imagine running a comm about the heinous nature of policing and then being so authoritarian?

YDI. This is not a productive way to approach the situation.

Update: I just recently found out the ban was permanent. This should've only resulted in a comment removal.

It's .world. Why do people still even go there?!

[–] FranklyIGiveADarn@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

To throw peanuts at the circus.

They haven't stopped him before, so why now?

[–] C4RC0S4@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

bannanaente is serinus and has given control of the lemmy.world admin bot to JordanLund last year

the two of them have forced out anyone from the mod team who stood up to them

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So.

As someone who knows more information about this, I feel like I should add this information before things go further.

Jordan has had access to that bot for nearly (if not more) 2 years. How do I know this? Because I had access to the same bot. Back in the day when I was very very active I had a dedicated stalker, DroneRights. They now go by the name DragonFucker or whatever. A lot of brand new accounts were being made just to harass me and all of them were pretty obviously alts of DroneRights. Like either self admitted or the same username but different instance. I used the bot as I was told and removed those accounts when it was made undeniable they were the same person. I did also use it once to remove CSAM that had been posted and reported but admins weren't around/awake. After 5ish minutes of no one responding to the callout in the Discord server, I used the bot myself to remove the CSAM. I feel every use of it was justified, at least by me.

Jordan?

I don't know why he was given access to the bot in the first place. Around that time in the server I do remember Jordan talking about being harassed and dealing with some personal stuff that the harassment was making more difficult. I didn't (and still largely don't) care about anything outside of my little meme areas so I wasn't really paying attention to anything Jordan said but I do remember seeing him use it and all of these memories are from a while ago. I haven't been in that server since like April. But I saw him use it for anything from CSAM to spam to harassment.

first using a.i tools to detect alts and now using discord bots to give admin privileges to anyone with the bot access

is .world too big for the mod team to handle?

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Honestly, I'm just questioning why you're lying.

You said elsewhere that you got those screenshots months ago but that is a blatant lie.

I also just finished saying in a comment that I know about this situation and the users. So why you think I either wouldn't instantly refute your claim and call you a liar... I don't know.

That discord message was sent 4 days ago of this year.

Why are you lying?

[–] remon@ani.social 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

YDI.

He made a reasonable comment and you complete flew of the handle because of some shit that happened somewhere else.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

TBF, if you check the timestamps, it becomes pretty clear he was only alerted to my comment by my report on the other user's reply. That* was also frustrating, especially knowing that in the background he likely pulled it from the mod queue and Ada wouldn't be able to see it.

[–] Susaga@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So, sort of a BPBPR? Bait-Prokoved Bait-Provoked Reaction?

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I'd agree with that, even if it's a bit of a mouthful x3

[–] maam@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You should not be pushing people’s buttons.

[–] KAtieTot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Idk that kinda seems outside of the purview. If she wants to push his buttons, so what?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well mods will ban you but only if the button pushing doesn't fit their agenda.

That's called censorship. People need to find communities that are not modded by idiots.

[–] maam@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Many communities ban you if you start namecalling and being rude. Being a buzzkill is so boring.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They only ban you for this if they don't like substance of your content.

There are plenty of people being rude and name calling, but they don't get any censorship due to shilling approved points.

Jordan Lund drama is a good example of such behavior.

Rules for thee, not for me vibes

[–] maam@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Whelp you clearly are victimblaming in this isolated incident. Supporting drama farmers.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 1 week ago

Two wrongs don't make a right...

But there is also basic matra of FAFO

Jordan's toxic behaviour is finally caught up with him to where he shitted on so many people, that the community decided to reject him.

That's just basic social dynamics at work here.

Pretending that he is a victim is disingenuous. His conduct is well documented.

[–] maam@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It matters very much. This is poor behaviour. What do you mean it’s outside of the purview when it’s the literal situation occurring. I don’t think Jordanlund should be insulted out of the blue when he did nothing wrong in this incident.

[–] KAtieTot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

"pushing buttons" shouldn't result in any mod action. Sounds like thought policing to me.

Now, what OP did was a bit more than pushing buttons, but perm ban? One thing to get a warning or a week ban from it.

Don't really have an issue w/ OP telling a specific user they have issues with to fuck off.

Idc if lund was an issue "in this incident." context says they're kind of a douche overall.
