It's not the first time China has used AI to alter sexual content. In Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer, a nude scene featuring Florence Pugh was edited with an AI-generated black dress for Chinese cinemas.

China has also increasingly been cracking down on same-sex content. Since February, at least 30 writers of gay erotic fictions, nearly all of them women in their 20s, have been arrested across the country.

It's fascinating that they care so much about homosexuality. I get that it's just a tool of control but it's still weird.

They seem to be under the misguided impression that this will resolve the birth rate crisis. The smut example may have an effect if it were part of a broader crackdown on porn, but targeting homosexuality won't resolve anything and just make people miserable.

And China is a majority atheist country so the state really has no excuse for this blatant bigotry.

Atheists can also be homophobic though.

Yes, but they don't have an excuse.

It's just the typical toxic and illogical mix of homophobia, morality, and politics.

Ironically, same sex couples may actually be the key to alleviating the fertility crisis. Out and proud same sex couples tend to be of higher socioeconomic status, resolving the main barrier to having children. Yet, Draconian laws prevent them from accessing adoption or surrogacy services.

Also, China is absolutely cracking down on porn more broadly as well by shutting down websites, and jailing people, as part of its stance against "obscene materials."
