Syrian Girl | @Partisangirl

Look how the pro-climate change media turns on Greta Thunberg now that she’s an adult, left the “activist-inc” plantation and attacked the real enemy of humanity.

[Image, generated description: A split-screen image presents a visual comparison, with two distinct columns. The left column, labeled "After criticizing Israel," features headlines from news sources such as Forbes, Spiked, and the New York Post. These headlines, dated in 2023 and 2024, discuss Greta Thunberg and her views, with titles suggesting negative sentiment towards her. Accompanying these headlines are small thumbnail images of Thunberg, depicting her in various contexts. The right column, labeled "Before criticizing Israel," showcases articles from The New Yorker, The Washington Post, CNN, and The Guardian, dating from 2018 to 2021. Headlines from this section introduce Thunberg's activism, climate change advocacy, and praise. Thumbnails here also portray Thunberg, likely from earlier in her career. The image employs a clean, organized layout with white backgrounds and clearly defined columns. The overall impression is a side-by-side comparison illustrating a shift in media portrayal based on the subject's actions.]

While I'm not saying that it's not true, wouldn't you use the same companies in both columns?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 5 points 7 hours ago

Eh, they are saying more about themselves than they are about Greta.

Fuck genocide apologists.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 14 points 13 hours ago

Should've had comments from the same sites. Would make the point better.

I get the message but like these are just different news media.

If they want to have an effective message they should gather the same before and after from the same sites.

I guarantee the new york post never wrote a fawning article about this girl in the first place.

Look how the pro-climate change media

The what now ?

Right? Never in my life.

This screenshot is stupid as fuck. You're comparing The New Yorker and The Guardian to Forbes and the New York Post, and presenting that as evidence of some grand conspiracy? At least try...

And to be clear, Forbes and the New York Post are absolutely not "pro-climate change" unless that means "let's keep making climate change worse."

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 15 points 20 hours ago

It's not only anecdotal, they didn't even compare examples from the same outlets.

I'm also slightly triggered by the term "pro climate change".

That said, bottom left really takes the cake.

Yeah, what was Forbes et al saying about Greta when she was 15? If the screenshot was comparing headlines from the same publication i could see the criticism, but this comparison is dumb, as you said.

Plus, Forbes is different than the rest of the news sites pictured in that almost anyone can be a contributor and write articles (see WP:FORBESCON). I do think it would be fair, though, to say that the legacy media which wrote glowing profiles of Greta years ago have been mostly silent in comparison lately. That's just harder to capture in image format.

Several of those sites have or have had contributor articles also. Some have revised or shut down those programs. A quick search says the Guardian has it from 2013 to 2018. They still also take freelance commissions, though not sure if they have a vetting process.

She got on a boat to bring food to people in a country that isn't iarael

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago

Why does she hate ALL JEWS so much?? Who filled her heart with such hate!?!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago

Getting named "Antisemite of the week" by another genocide supporting advocacy group? Wear it with pride, girl!

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I get it. I think it would have been more convincing if they pulled headlines from the same sources for the left and the right columns.

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

"The real enemy of humanity" sounds like a dog whistle.

[–] Womble@piefed.world 7 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Yup, a small country run by genocidal maniacs is a tragedy obviously, but it is not worse than the looming disaster that is threatening to breakdown society worldwide. Portraying the former as the "real enemy" over the later is pretty twisted.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 hours ago

Except Israel is the 51st state, and it along with the other 50 states really are the real enemy of humanity.

I'm sorry, but even despite everything that's happening, calling Israel the real enemy of humanity is suspect as fuck to me.

[–] superniceperson@sh.itjust.works 0 points 13 hours ago

Fascism is objectively the enemy of humanity. Israel, a fascist apartheid ethnostate carrying out a genocide, is the enemy of humanity. It's people, a majority of whom support said genocide, are the enemy of humanity.

Using antisemitism( or any similar real problem) as a shield to commit genocide, makes you an enemy of humanity.

This isnt difficult, morally grey, nor particularly controversial to say. Or it shouldn't be, unless you sympathize with the enemy of humanity, and well we can guess what that makes you.
