Our party has a magazine every once in a while and for this season's issue they had an analysis on the increasing military spending and how young people are lured into the army. One point they make is that not necessarily Russia is the main goal, but China. And I think that's interesting and I'm glad they are daring to say it out loud.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There is a general increase in pro China sentiment within the party. Which is nice.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago

That's great to hear. I was afraid that maybe they would go in the wrong direction

I've started reading through some of my lefty books the past couple of days again, currently reading Immovable Object: North Korea's 70 Years at War with American Power by A. B. Abrams, from 2020. I have two other Abrams books, but next up might be either The Jakarta Method or Killing Hope, I haven't decided, and also a re-read of Blackshirts and Reds.

I turned 32 yesterday, and I just want to at least have a better background knowledge than I currently do on some countries, and I'm on a bit of a DPRK-binge right now, having read Gowans a couple of months back.

Police deployed water canons and tear gas on us yesterday while protesting for Palestine. The reason given was that we were not protesting on the right place. We were at City Hall instead of on the Riverside where nobody will see us.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

If you aren't getting pepper sprayed or blasted with water cannons you aren't really protesting.

[–] starkillerfish@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago

What kind of grievances can one even concoct against Sheinbaum? Homework? The bus system? When I call my relatives they seem convinced she is a saint vs Maduro who flip a coin that day may be fentacularly terrorizing wee landlords in Chicago

They have been incompetent handling insecurity and last week some city politician got whacked and the opportunists are trying to use that as a weapon.

[–] mistermodal@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

Kamala is the most honest politician I've ever seen because she can't help but reveal that she has no principles and no actual plan everytime she speaks.

There's this neolib politician in Belgium who from time to time makes based comments by accident. He fully supported Palestine at one point and now with the new government failing to form he told the prime minister to call to Vietnam to see how they did things some time ago as he saw that as a great example of what to do.

Please, do adopt Vietnamese mindset.

So my union might be taken over by capitalists. The member parliament didn't vote for a plan by the supervisory board that would basically turn the union into a company where the supervisory board would appoint the board of directors instead of the member parliament. So now the supervisory board is suing the member parliament. One of the people in the supervisory board is a former politician for the socialdemocratic party who helped implement austerity policy. Proves that socialdemocracy serves to destroy the workers movement from within.

[–] demerit@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 2 weeks ago

During the allied occupation of Germany, the us basically removed socialists from union leadership and put conservatives in their place, so nowdays unions just rubber stamp company policies. And remember it was polish unions that brought down their socialist republic.

[–] mistermodal@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most unions (exceptions?) in the imperial core are not revolutionary in the slightest, their goal is securing overtime + wage stabilization for a select group of workers. You guys need land reform, capital controls + expropriation measures, employment & education provisions. None of that is a part of western leftist politics, including the stuff that postures as radical and antiimperialist. If it doesn't even educate people on the economic structure of imperialism, how can it be revolutionary because it quotes Sankara? Mamdani is easy to criticize. People need to see what the PSL, the FRSO, and others are doing by repainting failed Vietnam War era sheepdog tactics that coincided with the repression of armed movements and the successes of Ho Chi Minh, taking credit for the sacrifices of the latter

Local socdem party made a video in which they send a honorable membership card to Mamdani saying he could be one of them but they are also in the government who wants to cut all social security down to a minimum, among other right wing things.

They got rightfully flamed for it.

Everytime a new drone pops up in Belgium, which is several times a day right now, I can't help but play 99 Luftballons in my head

My Mom said some heinous shit to me the other day (like, yesterday from now).

My therapist agreed that it was at least pretty hurtful, very much so.

I still feel a modicum of anger.

I don't know how else to leave the family.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Belgian government might collapse tomorrow as they can't agree on the budget after trying to form a government for a year and a half. Turns out getting out on the streets helps.

[–] starkillerfish@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

ive been manifesting gov collapse since summer 2024

Get off my shift, I was gifted by a customer an entire 7 inch rolled-cone cigarette packed to the brim with some interesting, premium selection. So premium, that the smell is made very apparent through a storage locker, the locker-room and the entire store-front. This normally isn't an issue, because I work alone and I keep my shit separate, but I was given a beautiful gift and how could I say no?

Well. I am closing up and my jacket is in the locker-room. I shut the door and I heard a familiar click. No fucking way. Alright, I have experience with plying locked doors. No problem here. Next up, I trigger the alarm and the entire police and fire department is being called. I message my manager, tell hem what happened; everything is good there. Anyways, I am on my way home, seething and venting and I realized the entire time I butt-dialed my manager at midnight.

Am I in a perpetual Clerks episode? I genuinely wonder if I'm a living example of Ohm's Law. Normally, I don't give a fuck but it's genuinely comedic that my life is a catalogue for the absurd.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ngl that does sound like a sitcom episode

Some serious trolling is done in Belgium with drones. There have been countless of incidents the past few days and now the country's biggest airport is closed because 'drone'.

No confirmation on who is to blame lol

recently been reading Theories of Everything by Milton K Munitz, essentially a catalogue of ancient history theorems of existence, early philosophical texts and some bits and pieces of modern works by Einstein and such. Pretty simple, I got it from one of those free libraries.

For some reason, the previous owner highlighted the entirety of Aristotle's On the Heavens and Copernicus' On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres as well as Galileo's Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. I've been trying to piece together why those specific pieces are high-lighted and I know the curriculum in this area doesn't cover the actual writings of the book in entirety so it's been a bit of a puzzle figuring out why the entire sections are high-lighted in blue-yellow highlighter.

"DUH" is written in black marker on the side of the book. Irony.

decent book regardless.

Belgium is having a special parliamentary meeting because of the drone sightings and it is increasingly clear that this country, but especially defense, is run by complete morons. The defense minister wanted to see if article 4 of NATO could be evoked but minutes later he had to back track saying 'ah no I can't do that APPARENTLY'. Like fuck me man you're the person in charge, know your shit.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm promoting Lemmygrad on Reddit again.

Let's see if we get at least some new members.
