Any ways to actively help China win the AI race?

Hypothetically, of course.

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Other countries are doing it to themselves, no need to do anything explicitly.

I mean, look at the shit hole that is the U.S. now. They are u doing themselves just fine and giving victories to their adversaries.

I hope he puts some camaras near his house. Then we'll all know where he is at all times.

Aliens (even illegal ones) are preferable to an asteroid strike, too.

Too bad they aren’t mutually exclusive.

We are going in that direction. Data centers being built all over the place is the very foundation for tracking every human on the planet.

I think future generations will not have any ability to go online, shop, work or live without a real id tracking everything about them.

You voice your concerns about something unpopular online, you may be blocked from taking a loan or work a job. Fear of stating your true opinion will be everywhere.

It won't even be obvious to you it happened or what may have caused it. Some AI algorithm determines you are an un-citizen and checks a box. Rejections keep coming back as you slowly fall down the social ladder, or not so slowly at all, until you become the invisible poor and disappear altogether.

Yeah it will just be talking to an AI and getting automatic rejections of any complaints or concerns. Pretty much like trying to reach a person at Google today, but worse.

If people dont put their foot down and start saying no to these data centers, it will be too late.

I listen to this guy on YouTube, just a normal retired it worker that makes good videos about life. Today he posted about a data center and how the community worked together to stop it:

All of the US colonies, implementing ~~age~~ id verification for everything is to ensure direct control of any dissidents to US empire/oligarchist supremacy.

How do you win this race? By having the most capable unsustainable LLM? Not sure if I care...

It's funny how many governments are getting surveillance wrong. Mass surveillance and aggregating the data with other social network databases is where the danger is at. Personal surveillance is right up there with recording authorities abusing their power and protecting your home. Ironically, the reverse is happening. The same governments where laws like GDPR criminalize personal surveillance also sign up for palantir's services and mass surveillance systems as they allow companies to no longer give a shit on their websites about the GDPR and effectively allow them to collect all the personal data GDPR was supposed to protect. People shouldn't be so keen to disseminate public videos onto social networks, but they should definitely be allowed to record and submit them to the authorities or to the courts if necessary.

Some stupid ass logic

Of course he does. But false dichotomy aside, China has a good chance "winning the AI race" anyway. Given their existing work, the investment they're doing in higher education, the additional internationally trained talent they get every year, and the industrial base that lets them make cheap energy and hardware, I think at the very least China has a decent chance to create equivalent tools at a lower price than whatever the US AI industry creates. If they come out with a competitive hardware and sell it at lower margins, along with free models as they already offer... I think a lot of firms and governments would opt for that instead of paying for NVIDIA and OpenAI.

This guy is the maker of surveillance states.

[–] BurnedDonutHole@ani.social 3 points 1 day ago

The Singularity Trap by Dennis E. Taylor (2018) The book defines a sci-fi universe where humanity must escape from an overwhelming AI entity. The solution, as demonstrated by the main character, is to be turned into a machine using nanomachines, yet somehow retain one's humanity. When I raised the issue of this kind of story's inherent paradox and flawed logic—where the solution to saving humanity from an AI entity seeking to destroy all natural biological life is to turn into machines—people responded that they still enjoyed the narrative. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if this idiot's stament gathered widespread support.

If any of you dumb fucks don't think we already live in a surveillance state, you are part of the problem

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

The biggest conspiracy theory of my lifetime was the government was intercepting all communication and it was proven completely true.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, from his perspective, having nothing to lose (besides his soul, ofc, but that's for silly people 🙄), of course!

[–] count_dongulus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

You think the Palantir CEO has a soul? You gaze into that orb once and it's game over

[–] Onyxonblack@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

No it's not

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago

Not MY Surveillance! YOUR Surveillance!

-Palantir CEO!
