Also, prions, one of the deadliest cannibalism infections, are pretty damn heat stable. You can grill the shit out of a burger and still get mad cow disease, pretty sure that applies to human-human transmission too.

A friend told me this was rooted in classism. Basically they used to use spices, but when their exploitation flooded the market with cheap spices it became available to the lower class, and that turned the perception into a bad thing.
