Actually a mistake, or doing exactly what russia fucking does and testing boundaries and responses, and then going oops! ??

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 23 points 3 hours ago

Mexico should have arrested all those illegal aliens and then deported them to North Korea.

[–] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 10 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Military incompetence, or international threat, either way you know the decision is being made at the top.

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Will Trump is both incompetent and an international threat so that checks out

[–] Technoworcester@feddit.uk 11 points 10 hours ago
[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 hours ago

Just do what Poland or Turkey would do if Russia "accidently" flies a plane into their airspace

[–] Cyberflunk@lemmy.world 17 points 12 hours ago

LOOK AT THIS CRISIS I CREATED TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 29 points 15 hours ago

Oh, turns out that wall isn’t very effective after all huh?

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 204 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

This was no mistake.  It was a test.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They also said unauthorized access or photography was not allowed in that area and that 'if you are found here, you may be detained and searched.' Mexico's foreign affairs ministry said its navy removed the signs from the sand, which it believed were on Mexican territory."

That's the result they wanted.

It's Mexico, clear as day, but Mexico just waffled on it and said they "believed" it was Mexico.

They'll take a page out of Israel's playbook and start saying "until we figure this out, it's a buffer zone". Then just keep expanding it and not obstructing Americans from "settling" there, once they're established, then it's obviously America because why else would Americans be living there?

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 33 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

You might be reading too much into that. The article stated Mexico's naval personnel removed them as the personnel acted on the information they had. I would highly doubt they were going to go to great lengths to confirm the exact coordinates of the boarder.

Do I think that's what the Americans were trying to do? Yes. But Mexico didn't waffle it.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

What??

This wasn't a random place, it's a fucking beach with people who go there routinely...

What "great lengths" did you think it would take to determine which side of Trump's ridiculous fence this was on?

You think people that live and work right next to the border, are unsure about where the border is?

You think it's something you can accidentally wander across?

Mexico knew that beach was theirs, but when pushed they said it might be instead of saber rattling that America just tried to seize a fucking landinghead

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

Mexico waffled nothing. They removed the signs. The statement of believe or not isnt consequential.

The border is really big, and not all of it is fenced. It's definitely possible to accidentally cross it.

Not saying that's what happened here, though.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

A boarder is someone who lives in your house. A border is what separates countries.

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Or maybe they boarded Mexico like a ship, or boarded it with signs, making the Americans the boarders

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 3 points 8 hours ago

All aboard the boarding ship! So exciting! You won't be bored

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Like how Russia tested Ukraine?

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Like how Russia is testing the rest of the EU right now.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Everyone except Turkey who just blew their jets right out of the goddamn sky and said “crossing our airspace without permission is a no.” No accidental incursions there anymore

How the foxtrot do you accidentally invade Mexico? What they mean is they committed another act of abuse and then said they didn't mean it

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

The article claims that changes in water lines resulted in altered perceptions of the border line. As if international borders are hallucinogenic in some way? IDK

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

It's well known that changes in water lines make GPS completely inoperable. This could happen to any wealthy and powerful nation's military.

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago

Sorry to tell you, but international borders absolutely are hallucinations. Grant you, not hallucinogenic, but they’re absolutely flights of fancy.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 60 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Militaries accidentally invade each other all the time.

Usually, they back right out and let the other country know, they don't use boats to get around visible border controls and plant a sign in other country though.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

"¡Solo fue una broma, hermano!"

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Consider we're just not that bright?

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 11 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Narcissist prayer all day, every day.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

I'm not touching you! I'm not touching you!

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 104 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's about 20 miles south of the border. And the only reason to approach by boat would be because you couldn't do it from land, because you'd be stopped.

[–] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 87 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In this day and age of GPS, there's no excuse for them to be in another FREAKIN COUNTRY. Just complete morons.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 33 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

They are morons for following illegal orders. Modern GPS can practically tell when you leaned over to fart, we cannot assume this was accidental.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Modern GPS can practically tell when you leaned over to fart

A fucking garmin watch could tell you when you’re across the border, Daggers have access to an entire other satellite network for even more precise location that civilians cannot use so they have less than zero excuse for positioning.

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Remember the Alamo?

[–] modernangel@sh.itjust.works 66 points 1 day ago

"mistakenly" wink wink

Not an honest mistake, not under this regime

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago

Any better sources for this?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago (3 children)

How the fuck did they not get arrested?

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Shoot them in the fucking face next time

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Generally unwise to escalate on stupidity. Don’t give the US any more reasons to double down on war.

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That's right, when a foreign army invades your country, don't escalate, just give them control of your government and your institutions.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

If they leave immediately in shame like they just did, then yeah, leave them alone. FFS you guys have no concept of diplomacy.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

ITT: People who don't live in North America wants to see a bunch of US-Americans and Mexicans die for their amusement

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 1 points 3 hours ago

I live in north America and would find it kinda neat.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 day ago

Probably by having lots of guns and Mexico not wanting to start the Second Mexican-American war.

Bah. I accidentally invaded America during Basic training. The other side of that long swathe of clearing was cooler, so we walked there.

Wow, did we get in trouble when we all found out we actually invaded.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did you hammer signs into the ground claiming that territory for your country? Had your country recently made military threats against American sovereignty, and had your country's military recently killed 76 citizens of a country near America in extrajudicial slayings while claiming that they were doing the same things you're threatening America over?

It's hardly a similar situation to that right now. Tensions are high, America is a serious threat.

[–] CatsPajamas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Mexico and Venezuela are approximately one Mexico away from each other. They aren't really that near to one another. The rest of your point stands but the Americas are really fucking big.
