"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985

Trump pretty much did what he always did, which is read the room and react in the most obvious way in the moment. People like Mamdani, better to embrace him and try to catch some of that wave than remain opposed to him. This is all part of capitalist co-opting of reformist blah blah you know that part.

idk what's going on in Mamdani's head. He probably sees being gracious to the president as a better path than being oppositional to him. But we simply won't know his true colors until he's in power and ICE raids are happening in New York and we see his response. Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals.

He probably took a plane over a train for the most boring reason imaginable, like the White House wanted to set the meeting at a specific time and that was the only way to get there fast enough. Or maybe the WH sent him a plane ticket in some kind of crypto anti trains power play.

He met with Trump. Trump seemed to really like him. Mamdani kept saying he was going to make NYC great again with his groceries store plan. Trump ate it up and likes to be pictured agreeing with popular people. The right is reacting as weirdly as expected to Trump seemingly agreeing with a leftist juhadist radical Muslim socialist communist anarchist (TM). Trump also told Mamdani to continue calling him a fascist. I think he thinks it’s just a mean word used to tease politicians.

I think the post’s contention is whether or not Mamdani was intentionally trolling Trump/the right wing or if he was a playing a socdem political acquiescence or if he’s actually doing actual realpolitik in NYC’s favor. IMO, probably a little of all that.

Thanks for the explanation!

Interesting point too.

I just saw this on xhs. TL;DW: he thinks mamdani is another pressure valve to preempt a revolution.

I think normal people like to post fun things and use emojis. Most people are not poisoned by several layers of irony.

After the meeting with Trump there was a bunch of "gotcha" questions the reporters asked Mamdani which Trump saved him from. One of them was 'why did you fly to DC instead of taking the train?'. It was a fair question because the only decent passenger rail in the US is between NYC and DC. This picture was taken on the return.

Its an 8.5 hour train ride versus a 1 hour flight. No, its not a fair question.

This is it, this is "THE EXPRESSION" and with it you have built 0.00000001% of socialism in the beating heart of capitalism; New York is ready to embrace you.

(If this were Disco Elysium this is what Mamdhani would be telling to himself.)

A Muslim man who just became mayor of NYC and was attacked by his political opponents for "being friends with hasan piker who said America deserved 9/11", definitely knows what he's doing with this tweet lmao
