That's great news! Not only you invade a country to kidnap their head of state and try to impose your own ruling, but now you are also forcing them to dump their partners. I'm sure China is gonna be so happy for this...

I really hope Pooh doesn't do anything stupid, like retailating in any way... After all, it's not as if they were the biggest buyer of US debt in the world, right? They couldn't possibly retailate by selling all that debt at once? Oh gosh... I hope they don't do anything like that!

China doesn’t care. Russia doesn’t care. Europe doesn’t care.

The people in power still have power. The rich are getting richer. This is just petty international squabbles to distract the people while they are robbed blind.

Pooh is just gonna take Taiwan and no one will do anything.

Trump is gonna take Greenland and no one will do anything (except maybe Denmark, but lol…)

Columbia, nothing.

Panama…. That might legitimately piss some of them off, but they’ll negotiate.

China cares about their money. If oil from Venezuela stops flowing, China will start caring. And the US don't want China to start caring because, as you said, they could take Taiwan and make the AI bubble burst in a split second. And the oligarchs in the US will be beyond pissed with mango hitler for that.

China is already well on the way to decoupling from oil dependence. This whole push by Trump to get back into coal and oil is grandpa logic.

China is already gonna get it from Canada. The ball is rolling. The US is just desperately trying to remain relevant.

They won't because Trump has made a deal with the devil so nobody will ever impose consequences on him for anything ever

This is what we get for normalizing the blatantly illegal embargo of Cuba. Now the US thinks it can say who can trade in the Caribbean.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So the U.S. government telling the U.S. population they can't do dealings with Cuba is like attacking and abducting a head of state and taking over their industry how exactly?

So the U.S. government telling the U.S. population they can't do dealings with Cuba

That is not what the embargo on Cuba is, the embargo on Cuba is the US telling the world population that they can't deal with Cuba. The US embargo says not only that we won't trade with Cuba, we won't trade with anyone who trades with Cuba. The US uses extraterritorial means to force third parties to stop trade with Cuba.

Don't take my word for it take it from the UN general assembly, in the resolution GA/12650 in 2024:

Concerned about the continued promulgation and application by Member States of laws and regulations, such as that promulgated on 12 March 1996 known as “the Helms-Burton Act”, the extraterritorial effects of which affect the sovereignty of other States, the legitimate interests of entities or persons under their jurisdiction and the freedom of trade and navigation,

This resolution was passed with 187 in favour and 2 against ( US and Israel) and a resolution like this has been passed by nearly every UN session in the past couple decades . Everyone voted yes not because they necessarily want to trade with Cuba but because they don't want to set the precedent that the US can unilaterally blockade a country from the global economy. A precedent that is being exercised now to say Venezuela can't sell its own oil. They'll probably even cite the Cuba embargo laws as justification for this when/if they ever get dragged into court for this.

On paper it still says that, in practice Canada, Mexico, Brazil and near everyone else in the west trades with Cuba, and the U.S. hasn't stopped trade with them.

Should the U.S. say that, no. But by no means has the U.S. stopped trading with China, Spain etc.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 3 points 2 days ago

In the 4 weeks leading up to the this big event; Russian intelligence received critical intelligence from the United States about Ukraine and performed actions against strategic targets.

Russia did a “Ukraine for Venezuela” trade deal with Trump.

US kidnaps a head of State and blackmails country with threat of invasion

"I can't believe Russia would do this"
