Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1666 readers
108 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

Some acronyms you might see.

Aaaaaaand I just got banned from NOT one, NOT two, NOT three, but four Lemmy.ml communities. Is this a sign I have to start studying and reading up on theory?

Also, I know some Lemmy.ml mods is gonna say that "you wouldn't get banned from these communities had you read your theory!" like they're teachers demanding students to eat their meat before they can have their pudding (because how can you have your pudding when you don't eat your meat?)

Now I support the idea of socialism (I'm more of a market socialist), and I'm NOT against the idea of actually existing socialist countries (ie: China, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos and the DPRK). That said, I think Lemmy.ml should be more open to different forms of socialism, as well as the Marxist Leninists who DOESN'T have to support Stalin (and his bureaucratic and polarizing practices while General Secretary of the CPSU) to support ML.

I am very bummed that I CAN'T respond in these communities - that said, I can subscribe to different versions of these communities that happened to be in different Lemmy instances (other than Lemmy.ml):

Socialism:

!actualsocialism101@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Lemmy support:

Someone should make another Lemmy support community here in this instance

.ml is a clown show. Block it- and their members and enjoy the peace and quiet of mature discussion on lemmy.

I told you so. A lot of your comments come across as sealioning.

Lemmy.ml tends to be very strict though and often uses the terminology of their rules very loosely to ban people.

.ml is essentially Lemmy's /r/conservative as far as censorship, propaganda, mod power trips, and sub-zero IQ levels go.

Avoid at all costs. Block the instance. Life is too short to waste on basement dwellers.

Would you consider Marxism-Leninism-Stalinism (basically ML but with Stalin's views in them) as the right wing of communism?

I have instance blocked lemmy.ml for more than a year now and it makes my internet life seriously better. You don't need to read more theory OP, you need to get rid of assholes in your life.

What about reading up on socialist/communist theory? I still have a lot to learn as a socialist.

[–] gigachad@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Read as much as you can, but don't limit yourself to a specific theory, it will make you narrow-minded. That's an advice I can give after 20 years of being a critical thinking adult.

Regarding Lemmy: I would not want to be part of a group that bans me, because I haven't "read enough theory".

Does RedSails have anything by Daniel De Leon?

[–] gigachad@piefed.social 2 points 15 hours ago

I think you may have answered to the wrong comment

No, that looks like an admin ban from the instance. You're banned from lemmy.ml entirely.

When you get instance banned, the modlog will simply show bans from communities you've posted in from that instance. If you try to post to a lemmy.ml community now, it won't federate out. It's actually a really broken system that can cause problems.

Me thinks the initial bans for trolling should have stuck

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

lol, I missed that one on /new, but based on the timing, it looks like that was about the ban for the lemmy.ml account while this thread is for this account

[–] goferking0@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

You'd think a little reflection would be used if you can make yourself look exactly like a llm trolling

.ml isn't tolerant towards other ideologies or beliefs. If it isn't full-throated support for authoritarian regimes, then it's considered a bannable offense, even if you support actual socialism or communism. Note that your ban was very likely from the admins themselves, as the moderators hardly do any banning there compared to Dessalines and Davel.

demanding students to eat their meat

Nah. I demand you stop eating meat.

Guess I’m not a mod, though, so take the rest of this with a giant serving of salt:

You’re getting banned in part because you post the same things over and over again and don’t seem to actually incorporate any of the feedback you get in response.

You're getting banned in part because you’re participating in communities you’ve previously been banned from (and, per the prior point, not changing anything about how you participate in those communities).

You’re getting banned in part because your takes are often contradictory and unrealistic, and primarily based in historical revisionism.
