This community is for posts about Marxism and geopolitics (including shitposts to some extent). Serious posts can be posted here or in /c/GenZhou. Reactionary or ultra-leftist cringe posts belong in /c/shitreactionariessay or /c/shitultrassay respectively.

Boy Boy is kinda underrated among MLS and certain leftists.

I've noticed that some people, at least in the ML and/or Maoist spaces, pass them over because they're not specifically communist... but damn, they are good at what they do and arguably have more to say and more to reveal than the admittedly small number of ML influencers on YouTube out there, IMHO.

Plus, they're not always making their videos so damn long. I mean, yeesh, YouTube keeps giving me videos that are over two or three hours long. Even a video over one hour long is unnecessary sometimes.

No wonder people are listening to videos either on the side while they're doing other things or at twice the speed or both... Nothing seems to get to the point anymore! Brevity is the soul of wit... if you're not concerned about views, subscriptions, and donation money by extension.

You know why TikTok is popular now and rivaling You Tube? Because the videos are 5 minutes at best... which in itself is a problem, I grant you, but the alternative is a 5 hour video which just regurgitates the same point over and over again.

Would be nice to see more content creations which aren't either too short or too long, but such things are a rarity, it seems.

(Damn, look at me ranting about something which technically has nothing to do with the OP lol)

I think the thing about Boy Boy is that they're communists who don't advertise themselves as "communist Youtubers" but rather just "Youtubers who are communists". They're pretty honest about just filling a market niche of entertainment and don't intend to play a key role in bringing about revolution. In the war for cultural hegemony, they're more of a good symptom rather than a cause.

Those are the best kinds of creatives, those that fill a niche and try not to be too general.

Are they not specifically communists? Aleksa at least self-identifies as such.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They certainly don't advertise it, but yeah, maybe you're right, I do remember something like that!

I just checked and they have changed it, but the channel description for Boy Boy used to be "communist propaganda for idiots" or something similar

They say they’re MLs on their patreon:

We make videos of us sneaking into places, breaking laws and kissing each other, all for the purpose of spreading the immortal science of Marxism-Leninism. We've got some very big ideas in the pipeline, releasing some very ambitious documentaries and we need your help to get them done. Since a lot of the world’s political issues are quite visceral and confronting, Youtube often makes it hard for us to publish our work. As Boy Boy patrons, you’ll be helping us get these videos out to the public without worrying about censorship or demonetization.

OH

Interesting...

Oh, rly?

I hope so!

Are they a gay couple? I'm asking genuinely, not trying to insult anyone.

[–] Conselheiro@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No, I'm pretty sure they're both straight. It's a running gag on their videos where they'll respond to homophobic attacks by implying they may be gay and/or a couple, and they've done stunt kissing for some videos (which, shocker for homophobes, straight people are capable of doing). The Disney one is the main one for this gag: https://youtu.be/Qe5RmpYPT08

In my culture, we only kiss our lovers—be it same or opposite sex—from lips; we kiss on the cheeks with rest of the close people—family, relatives, friends. This was very confusing to me so I wanted to ask.

Oh yeah, in white Australia too lol. They only do it on screen to be provocative. As a bisexual man myself I find it very amusing.

Yeah, more power to Boy Boy!
