The Board of Peace is expected to try and mediate global conflict and has been accused of trying to replace the UN

Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” has faced fresh ridicule after it emerged that nearly half of the countries on it are banned from entering the US under his travel ban.

Trump unveiled his alternative to the United Nations with great ceremony on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He welcomed representatives from several countries on to the stage and said he was “friends” with all of them. They included Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.

Notably absent from the address were any European countries amid reports that Vladimir Putin had been invited to join.

Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo are European contries

I was going to wince at a US publication not doing European geography, but no, it's actually the British The Independent, of all places.

Honestly embarassing levels of arrogance in that oversight

Arguably Turkey as well, albeit sitting on two continents. This hurts. Erdoğan is a stupid shithead but I don't want anyone - not even him - to play Nazimurica's little bitch. And the people of Turkey do not deserve this. Atatürk would turn in his grave..

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 28 points 3 months ago

Ataturk was wise enough to create a strong, secular nation.

Erdogan embraced religion as part of public life.

How do these people feel about paying big chunk of their GDP (10% in Kosovo's example) to appease a foreign king? Crazy.

They're using the free trial, will leave after some grifting

One ruled by a Russian Dictator, one has a massive Corruption problem and government taken down by anti-corruption protests, and another is not fully recognized as a legitimate state (Russia among them in fact.)

Just saying the Geography maybe there but in terms of weight of legitimacy…

This is a board of corruption and has nothing to do with peace.

It's an extortion scheme: "Nice country you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it. We can make sure it stays nice with a $1 billion dollar annual payment made out to Donald Trump. I'll see it gets to the right place."

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 6 points 3 months ago

Its just vile.

They're greedy corrupt assholes picking over the corpses of the fallen.

Good to see all the players step up for roll call. Now we officially know who you all are.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They need to stop calling it a UN alternative. It's literally just a Trump Appreciation Club. It's all about appeasing his ego, as made clear by his temper tantrums against anyone who doesn't want to join

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

They apparently uninvited Canada after our primi minister's speech. Honestly, an uninvitation is like the greatest honour we can receive from that guy.

This really sounds like a knockoff of Legion of Doom.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 3 months ago

Dollar Tree version.

[–] renrenPDX@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So all these countries forked over 1 billion USD?

[–] GobberingGoblin@reddthat.com 16 points 3 months ago

No. The first 3 years will be free, if you want to be a member for longer you have to pay then

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Don't give this distraction any oxygen.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 months ago

This is so fucking stupid at this point.

The implementation of project 2025 is not a distraction. It’s the entire goddam plan.

Pretend that I posted a picture of the Skeksis council from the Dark Crystal. For the last few days, Lemmy hasn't been able to handle the posting of pictures. That really puts a crimp in memery.

Where possible I try to embed photos that are hosted elsewhere online, rather than waste space on a copy on Lemmy servers. This one is lifted off https://ictnews.org/lifestyle/the-dark-crystal-age-of-resistance-an-enchanting-journey-following-seven-clans-of-gelfling/

My thanks. It is incredible how fiction reflects reality.

Soon to be "previously banned."

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, he doesn’t want them. He only wants what they can give to him.

[–] green_red_black@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 months ago

Which happens to be enough money for several of those Gold Card Visias he is selling soo

Anyone know what happened with Australia?

I assume we just plain were not invited because we're unimportant, which is fine.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Australians don't have a problem telling some skag to Fuck Off.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 2 points 3 months ago

While that may be true, it's not how international diplomacy works. We're pretty far up Trump's ass, partnered with AUKUS and the rare earth deal. I imagine Albo wouldn't want to be involved but he can't just tell Trump to fuck off.

Many west aligned asian, african, and latin countries are missing too
