Canada makes some of the best planes in the world, especially for private jets. This is a tax on strictly the ultra wealthy Americans, so I don't think he will follow through.
Who wants a TACO?
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Not just on the ultra rich, it could affect some airlines in the USA. The Airbus A220 is built in Québec, but they also build them in Alabama.
Trump is a thin skinned loser who rapes children and on top of that, he’s a 1 trick pony.
Tariffs.
The rest of the world is moving on without America. Good riddance.
Nah. He has other tricks. Sending in armed goons and cheating at golf are a couple of them.
I suppose you could go to the root of all these for the real lone trick: being a self-serving piece of [redacted]

Is this the country trying sell Canada a bunch of aircraft?
Anything with the word tariff in it should be automatically filed under Stupid News.
Why do humans keep appointing the dumbest evil people as their leaders?
Because half of adults read at a 6th grade reading level (at best), so recognizing bias and context is just beyond them. And rich people have spent decades building a media ecosystem that takes advantage of this
Because most of the people who make those appointments are dumbest (with 30% evilness) people.
Holy fuck Donny, tells your desperately out of negotiating ideas without telling us. Lol what a fuckin loser

Are these tarrifs actually effective? Seems like it's kinda flavor of the week kind of threat. Like we could cut exports or do sanctions
Pretty sure he can't do that.
It's like this man only knows one note and constantly wails on it.
He's a mafia guy and it has worked a shit ton in his past to threaten and then do stupid things that hurts everyone. I understand why he used it at first, a lot of countries bent the knee, but why he keeps using it is the stupid part. The stupid people even now know that it only hurts American consumers and fucks up the economy.
It’s like that one douchbag that always brings his guitar camping and only knows one chord.
Trump: "so anyway here's wonderwall"
Why not 5000% at this point? We all know you're not gonna stick to your word and change your mind tomorrow morning to whatever crazy idea sparks in your senile brain. So why stop at 50%? Get mad! Sky's the limit when you don't give a shit!
So, we're gonna make us pay... us... even mOAR for your planes!...?
They've given up trying to tell him. He'll die not knowing what a tariff really is
The sooner the better.
Still around, this guy.
Out of curiosity, why aren’t the Gulfstream jets certified?
That is a good question. I wonder what the issue is. Likely something completely reasonable
I looked it up and apparently Gulfstream simply haven’t bothered even trying because the market’s so small it isn’t worth the expense to them.
