Finished Ys IX: Monstrum Nox ! Not a big fan of the direction the story took, but still, the game was fun, so no complaints.

Also finished Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The last world was so difficult, lost over 50 lives, and had to use Funky Kong on the last boss. There are apparently other paths and secret levels, and I'll also like to collect the KONG letters, at least for the first 3-4 worlds. Will do that slowly over a long period of time, but for now, officially the game has ended.

Played Subsurface Circular, a short VN that you can finish in one sitting. It takes place in a future where robots are common and taking care of most of the jobs. The whole game is in a subway, and is mostly linear with a choice in the end, though it's possible there were other choices throughout the game that I missed.

Started Darksiders 3 on PS5. The game only has a PS4 version which plays at 30FPS, which means there aren't any advantages to not play on Switch, but I had a "free" copy from PS+, so went with that.

First of all, whoever says it's soulslike is wrong, the game is not soulslike. It does have some minor elements, like getting souls when you kill an enemy, and losing souls when you die (only died on the first boss, and couldn't find a way to reclaim the lost souls, but that was in first 5-10 mins, so maybe it will change further in the game), the combat is also a bit more methodical than the hack and slash of previous versions but it's no where near the soulslike level. And if you don't like even that, you can switch the combat to the "classic" mode, which is same as first two games, though that's what it says, I haven't tried it myself yet. There is no stamina system, the leveling up is very simple, divided in health, attack and magic (counter attack and maybe some skill that I'll unlock in future, no idea).

For those who have played the previous game but not 3, it's another "parallel sequel", happens at the same time as the first and second game. Can't wait to get a proper sequel, it seems Darksiders 4 will be the one.

On Switch, I have just started Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains, it's a long running chinese RPG series, and this is 3rd entry in the series, which is the oldest game in the series that is available in west, on modern systems. The latest entry is Xuan-Yuan Sword 7, which was released in 2020. I haven't started playing it yet, have only started it and reached the title screen, so can't really say anything about it.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I finally get to continue the story of Xenoblade X as all side quests up to level 60 are taken care of at last! The Red Lobster quest is very demoralizing. It's no wonder I only found just under half, the other half doesn't appear until you get the first 49! So if you try to do this without a guide and thoroughly comb through every nook and cranny of the city, your reward is getting to do it all over again. If all of the lobsters were available from the start this would just be a normal, tedious quest.

In the late endgame, the lack of any kind of combat log becomes a real problem. There are some rare cases in which I engage a tyrant and just instantly die and I have no idea what even happened. The enemy list in the game shows their stats and resistances, but not what they do.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, I recently realized I really don't need most of the extra rewards you get from Tempered monsters in the field, so I've switched over to grinding materials from lower ranked regular monsters via the quest list. My wishlist is finally shrinking at a visible pace!

I'm about to finish Wild Arms 2. I recently finished adding all regular enemies to the compendium and fought the optional bosses. I wasn't able to beat one of them because it would just require too much grinding. If there's one thing the game is missing, it's a way to reduce incoming non-elemental damage. You have spells that can raise defense and resistance, but they do next to nothing!

I dug out Smash Bros. Ultimate again for the first time in years. I've been doing single character runs of World of Light pretty much exclusively since launch and a list randomizer decided to pick Captain Falcon for this eighth run.

Probably some more Cyberpunk again honestly

Wow, it's friday already? This week flew by so fast, was really busy with my new job.

Playing Trails Beyond the Horizon!

Finished Act 1, and looks like from Act 2 onwards we'll get a split storyline between Van, Rean and Kevin.

I went with Rean's route first, and this section has them arriving at Basel, learning the lay of the land then going into a mock battle against the Republic's new mech, the beautiful Excalibur.

Van's route will be next.

Playing Super Robot Wars Y!

DLC2 has arrived so it's time to get back to this game.

This DLC includes Steel Jeeg which got a LOT of love in the animation department, plus an alternate universe Getter Robo and Da Garn from the Brave Series.

So far this DLC has been on the easy side, I guess it isn't balanced for endgame units with Level 99+ and tons of upgrades, but I'm having fun. Curious if the new storyline will be as interesting as the one from DLC1.

With two of my favorite series to keep my busy and a lot to do at work I didn't get any progress on Hades 2 or Witch on the Holy Night.

Thankfully there's no major game release I'm interested this month and we have an extended holiday coming soon (Carnival!) so I hope I'll be able to go back to these games soon.

Well, there is Mario Tennis Fever, but I am not sure. I enjoy sports game, but not sure if it's worth $70 for me. Will check out the details about the solo content and then decide.

There's also Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, but I still have 3, 1 and 2 to play before that, so no hurry about that.

Mario Tennis is not my cup of tea.

I've tried DQ games before but I almost never liked them enough to finish, 5 being the main exception. So while I might give 7 a shot it's probably a "pick it up with a big discount" situation.

What's the next big game you are looking forward to?

I recently played Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on the Switch 2 to check out the latest updates. I almost instantly remembered why I abandoned it 🤣 I was on the last world (I think), and it just feels unfairly difficult, and I never really clicked with the feel of the controller. So I don't know if I'll come back to it with more patience at some point or what. Never made it that far in Tropical Freeze.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the first introduction of Street Fighter II to arcades. To celebrate, I'll be playing some fights of Street Fighter II in any of its several iterations available on Switch 😅

I've been playing River City Saga: Three Kingdoms, which is a lot of fun. I just haven't had time to advance much in the story, but hopefully that'll change this weekend 🤞

Hehe, I can understand that, Donkey Kong Country games are really tough, at least in the last couple of worlds.

I have to start River City game, there are so many now. Trying to catchup to older series, so will probably get around to it somewhere this year. Let's see.

Wow, 35 years! That's worth celebrating! Have fun!

Yeah, there's been a lot of River City games, which I'm thankful for! I already got Three Kingdoms Next which I read improves on a lot of stuff. I've played both original River City Girls too, I'm looking forward to whatever comes next after Three Kingdoms.

About Darksiders, I played the first one on Switch in 2019, and I enjoyed it. It felt like an older school Zelda 3D game. Since then I've been thinking of getting Darksiders II on Switch, but never got around to it. It's usually found rather cheap, so I still might get it. I might try it out this year and then check out Darksiders III after I read your post!

Just looked it up, there are 8 River City games on Switch. 5 new ones since 2019, the other 3 are remakes or older games.

I played the first one in 2013, and loved it. Darksiders 2 I played much later, in 2023 and felt dated to me, though you play more retro games so your mileage may vary.
