Even if they want to obscure your ability to legally record, speak to your recording device and say what you can see. document using the SALUTE method. Pass SALUTE info to the rapid response network you are a part of.

Size: How many agents/ officers?

Activity: What specifically are the agents doing? If someone is detained and you know their A number and/or DOB, note it.

Location: Give an exact address or intersection and in NYC, a boro. The same address can be found in multiple boros. Include Av/St/Rd etc.

Unit(s): What letters, details, or patches are visible on the uniforms/jackets/vests/vehicles? Example: HSI/Homeland Security Investigations/Police Gang Unit, ERO, POLICE, CBP/US Customs and Border Protection, CBP Field Operations, POLICE DHS (2 kinds: NYPD Dept Homeless Services that are NOT ICE and Department of Homeland Security, who are federal agents)

Time: What precise time did you witness this? This info should be shared quickly.

Equipment: What did agents have with them? Ex: weapons, flexicuffs, dogs, door breakers, LRAD sound cannon, vans, SUVs, etc.

It's actually intended as a bit less pessimistic than that. Acknowledging that "law" has a place and time to mean something is not pessimism. The "authorities" aren't even obeying or enforcing the "law" right now - what are citizens supposed to think as neighbors get carted off to concentration camps? What are they supposed to do? The wringing of hands and waiting on "officials" has only proven one thing; this current regime doesn't care about "law" - just power and the ability to inflict damage. The time it takes to get these losers to "follow" the "law" is counted in irrepairable damages to families, communities, livelihoods and the fabric of moral decency. RESIST

The wringing of hands and waiting on "officials" has only proven one thing; this current regime doesn't care about "law" - just power and the ability to inflict damage.

It has also proven another thing: that the current system of law is nowhere near robust enough to avoid or even minimize such abuses from those in positions of power.

It's not malfunctioning and in need of repairs and adjustments. It's working EXACTLY as intended by those designing and controlling it.

Direct action and other forms of resistance needs to have the goal of replacing the entire system and the people in charge of it, not just returning to a more lawful and orderly version of how everything was done in 1992 like Clintonite Democrats want.

Can citizens do the same with flashlights?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 4 points 5 hours ago

Bike lights and some flashlights can be extremely bright. I think this would be appropriate, but I am not a lawyer.

We could. And we could use cameras that will film their activities even if they shine a light right onto the camera. The problem is that our phones aren't made to do that on their own.

CITIZENS ARE ALONE. The police can't/won't help. The national guard picks the nazi side. The fascade of law and order is a media trick to keep resistance low during this fascist nazi transition. Politicians are flaccidly flailing around instead of ordering the troops in to put down illicit and racist ICE activities.
The rules are suppised to change in November - but guess what.....

"Doooom. Doooom and gllooooooom. Despaaaaair. There's nothing you can do. Just give up. "

That's you. That's what you sound like.

If I see shit like this I'm a lot less opposed to citizens using lights as weapons against these neo-nazi fucks. I go out of my way to oppose illegal and most forms of "legal" violence (reddit bots/employees seem to think otherwise) because down that road lies the US turning into another Somalia and … not only do I not wanna see that many people get dead, I mean, I'd really rather not die that way. (And I would be dead, no doubt, with my medical background…) But lights and sounds can go both ways, y'know?
