A federal grand jury on Tuesday declined to indict Democratic lawmakers who posted a video urging service members and intelligence officials to disobey any illegal orders from the Trump administration, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The declination is a rebuke of the administration’s efforts to paint the six lawmakers — all of whom served in either the military or intelligence services — as dangerously undermining the president’s authority as commander in chief.

I was really hoping that would go to court. I wanted to see them make an argument in front of a judge. I wanted to see them try to say that telling people to follow the law was illegal. That would have been fascinating to see.

You do have a point; anything they tried to put forth as an argument might very well get the lawyers involved censured, perhaps even disbarred.

They don't care about follow-through on any of this ever, they want to be able to get JD Vance up there saying "We prosecuted all the woke [slur]'s who tried to destroy america!" thinking it will somehow secure MAGA for the administration or that there's any chance of the GOP holding together.

They know nobody in their base actually reads up on what happened to any of these cases, much like how most of them believe that the West Coast literally has entire cities burned down by antifa, they live in a fantasy world by choice. Some part of them knows it's not real, but like WWE fans who also refused to read up on if the show was scripted, they choose to not learn because it feels better to be in the narrative.

We will never be rid of a segment of our population who choose narratives willfully, so we need to learn some lessons about narratives and how to push people towards better outcomes instead of thinking we're going to change them or educate them.

That doesn't mean it won't see court it just won't see criminal court. They'd have a pretty good ftca lawsuit going if anyone chose to push it and I think they certainly should.
