Have a great week, everyone! Stay on top of your habits, keep up with what you need to.

As always, communism will win.

I'm starting your beginners reading list this week :)

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Thank you so much! I'm actually about to put out a much smaller guide too, as a sort-of absolute basics guide, so if that sounds more up your alley then I'll be sure to ping you when it drops!

[–] narr1@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hey if it's too much of a hassle I'd like to get pinged once you're done also! By what you wrote in that comment lower this approach of two courses sounds better for my frayed ability to concentrate :D

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Will do! Still trying to trim it and finalize the list, but will ping you once I'm done!

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Me too please and thanks! Have a wonderful week and happy real New Year, everyone!

Sure ping me. Though I'm starting at Section 0 anyways, so I guess there's gonna be quite some overlap.

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 4 days ago

Some, but my goal is instead to condense the first several sections into one month-long course, not just an expansion of section 0. I notice that a lot of people seem to drop off the later in the guide they go, so I want to have 2 guides, one barebones and one comprehensive. The current guide will be restructured so as to be more thorough, and the new will be stripped down as much as possible without losing clarity.

[–] DumbBrokeLeftist@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Would love a ping as well! I just recently got seven of my friends and I to begin developing a community run Introduction to Marxism-Leninism class using your list. We're only using Section 0 - 4 for the intro class and if all goes well, we'll be creating more classes with the later sections.

We just started Week 3 of our prep work. We read and take notes independently then get together in person once a week to synthesize an 'official' summary to use for the class once all the material is prepared.

Thank you very much for the list, it's been very good and has been a great resource for collaborating with my local comrades.

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Thank you so much, that's incredibly humbling to hear! The fact that a guide I made has actually had real-world benefits and utility is what makes continuing to maintain it worth it. Will definitely ping you!

Something clicked for me about ADHD after I saw this vid on youtube where somebody interviews two kids, one neurotypical and one ADHD, and the ADHD kid is asked at the end what they want to say to kids who don't have ADHD about kids who do. And she has this heartbreaking line, "[They could help them by] telling them that whatever you do, it's still right because you tried your best."

I would say my thought applies more to disability in general under capitalism than ADHD specifically. But basically, it's that people with ADHD, and people with disabilities more generally, work extra hard to manage only to still be seen as inadequate, inferior, or otherwise less-than-competitive for situations where steady, consistent labor is needed. It's something that is probably kind of obvious to a lot of people with disabilities, but I guess for me, because ADHD is this mostly invisible thing, it's always been hard to internalize that for myself. I want to believe that I can be "normal" and live a "normal" life, and it just doesn't work that way. I am often climbing uphill at times when others are walking a straight line and it may help explain some of the weariness that I chronically feel. And yet, whether because of my scattered disposition or playfulness as a coping mechanism or something, it seems like I can appear the opposite of how I feel at times with the people who most need to understand what it's really like for me: like I'm just chill and goofy and having a good time. I think it's a form of masking in a way. It's not that I'm lying about being playful, but it doesn't really show the part underneath that thinks the concept of sleeping for a year in the hope it will rejuvenate me is a nice idea, even if it doesn't make any logistical sense.

[–] cosmosaucer@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 4 days ago

the art will surely do wonders against groups of football hooligans that cut their teeth fighting either the cops or each other their entire adult life

Remembering an old news story from years ago about a guy who just walked into a warehouse with nothing but a clipboard, pretended like he worked for the company, then just walked off with thousands of dollars in merchandise and nobody even realized until he was long gone.

Fucking gigachad. I wonder if he ever got caught.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 days ago

I bet throwing on a business suit and a hi-vis vest would help.

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 4 days ago

🫵 You WILL have hope, comrade.

I'm sure everyone here already knows this, but this is just as much a reminder to myself.

When we go out there to help people, we should never expect anything in return. Otherwise we'll turn into Trotsky-lite. If we can't expect someone to pay it forward themselves then something isn't right here and we need to address that. Either within ourselves or within our environment.

I wish everyone great courage, you matter, thank you.

what happened with venezuela? i remember people making fun of trump for doing a "decapitation strike" that took out one person, and now suddenly rodriguez is sending cuba's oil to israel? did something change or did maduro just always have a chud vp?

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Venezuela doesn't have any oil anymore. Its imperialist oil going to israel, its just stolen from Venezuela instead of one of the other places they extort.

Back before the kidnapping there was a report that Maduro had offered the us "everything." So the policies Rodriguez has implemented were probably already agreed to by Maduro. Likely the only sticking point in those negotiations was that usa wanted Maduro to give the presidency to someone usa picked out. By withholding a endorsement of an anti-communist regime, Maduro forced the usa to come get him but this forced usa to leave the socialists in power because they were the only ones with the popular support to implement the negotiated appeasement.

This is real 5d chess. The Venezuelan government aren't stupid. They know what kind of hell usa could bring them. That kind of suffering would have undermined the support of the Bolivarian revolution. Things will probably get harder for Venezuelans because of the reduction in oil revenue but the blame will be put on america and anyone who supports america instead of the blame being put on the Bolivian revolution like it was for the last few decades. Even the moderate opposition have sided with the Chavista Government to denounce the imperialists. The entire nation is being pushed left by the actions of the usa.

The preservation of the socialist project is more important than the revenue from oil. All the Chavistas have to do is survive a few more decades untill usa crumbles. The commune systems put in place by Chavez and Maduro make it possible to do that. It won't be easy for Venezuela but it will be easier than war with usa and the struggle will reinforce anti-colonialism, anti-capitalism and Chavismo.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (4 children)

i guess that makes a lot of sense. so the us now controls venezuelan oil more or less completely? is that what's causing the oil crisis in cuba? sorry i guess i've been living under a rock for the past couple weeks; this whole thing has kinda taken me by surprise.

Hello comerades

I wanted to try to translate the Norwegian poem "Revolusjonens Røst" by Rudolf Nielsen to english for you because I quite like it. I've taken some liberties to try to make it a bit less akward than a literal translation, and also skipped trying to force it into a rhyming scheme to focus on the message. Here you go:

The Revolutions Voice

Give me the true and rising, the solid people of strength. Those who are patient and willful, and never in life will go wrong, And sell out my great purpose, instead fighting to death for it.

Give me the cool and the wise, who how I am real. Much more than many who say they believe, I need those who know. Nothing is more like words in sand, than promises of love to come.

Give me the bitter and spiteful, without fear in their hearts. Give me the godless and proud, without a taste for the ideal, but who will make a heaven here by their own class.

Give me the burning hearts, which never give way to doubt, who never give in to sorrow and fear and settle for mere rest, but meet every victory and defeat with the same invincible grin.

So give me the best of you, and I will give you all! No one will know how much we fought for untill we have truly won. We might just need to save our earth, the best among you are called.

Absolute aura from that picture. I've recently heard a tiny speech translated live in 3 languages, of which all 3 I speak, in the Berlinaler. I kinda got shocked how the idea got distorted with the translations. In the original the Directir of the movie said she was a Left-wing woman, and made a movie to counter the Right-wing extremists in the church and government from our last President. And in the last translation it was basically "I'm a left-ish person who made a movie criticising the right-wing christian government". Wild how the context of a culture can be so adapted and unfolds different depending on the society, because I also spoke with my partner and they told me that the translator bot only translated but adapted accurately to represent Germany's political views and social constructs. And idk, that was pretty interesting to see, sadly I don't have a much more in depth analysis.

Anyways, watch A Fabulosa Máquina do Tempo, it's a beautiful movie about empathy and the direct impacts of poverty led by imperialism being actively countered, but not enough

Day before yesterday, saw right wing nutcases doing protest in Gangnam for their ex president. Seen USA flag, Pissrael flag, and flag with Sygman Rhee lmao. I wanted to take a picture but my out of shame forbid me to do so. 2 hours later they were gone.
