Obama Immigrant Detention Policies Under Fire

the Los Angeles-based Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law and Obama administration officials have just a few days left to settle a lawsuit challenging the detention facilities for more than 2,000 women with children, who came here during last summer's border surge. The families are being held in detention centers in Texas and Pennsylvania. A federal judge in Los Angeles issued a preliminary ruling finding that the administration is violating an 18-year-old court settlement, Flores v. Meese. The settlement requires the government to house migrant children in "the least restrictive environment" or release them to relatives. The judge gave federal officials and the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law time to reach an agreement on how to implement her ruling before she makes it final.

The entire point was without killing civilians, yet you ignored it.

The entire point was to do what without killing civilians?

Deport ppl? Why do you think that's a secret?

[–] Ashelyn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't think it's a secret, just say you think people who have committed no crimes should be held in a cage for weeks to months before shipping them out to someplace they were trying to get away from

I have no problem with illegal citizens being deported. I had to wait over a year and spend thousands of dollars to get my wife here legally. Should it be easier and less expensive? Yes. But should people also have to do it legally? Yes

I do have a problem with deportations because they are historically illiterate (migratory work was a regular thing for centuries), financially illiterate (how much fucking money are we spending on all this again?), and inhumane (vast majority of these people weren't causing problems, + look at how any of these camps are run). This is including when Hope and Change was doing it. The concept of an illegal person is the Private Prison Industry's wet dream. Don't fall for it.

The law has failed people here, so I think discussing the matters in terms of legality is also a failure. I'm glad you were able to get your wife over here without drawing the ire of the authorities, but damn if this doesn't echo the "fuck you got mine" rhetoric on so many issues in this country including housing, education, and healthcare. You politely disagree with the rules yet can't help but tut-tut those who don't follow them, whether it be out of principle or necessity.

Bad rules are meant to be abolished; immoral laws are meant to be civilly disobeyed.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The did kill civilians but not the precious white ones which you exclusively care about

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh which case are you referring to

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because civilians did die.

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes died not murdered. You're going to die eventually too.

Si you can't see the difference between getting your brains blown out and dying from an illness, cool cool.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And being purposely allowed to die from illness. No I don't. Refusing life-saving care and murdering them is the same thing. It's fucking horrendous that you neo-libs don't understand that. Of course you people do allow a lot of people to die on purpose don't you?

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

Negligence doesn't mean it's on purpose. This is why there's multiple degrees of murder charges and manslaughter, negligent homicide etc.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Oh I’m so sorry, still not voting for Newsom

I can't wait to find out where it is and piss on her grave when she dies.
