The Hungarian leader is escalating an energy dispute as he trails in the polls ahead of April elections.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Wednesday accused Ukraine of plotting to sabotage Hungary’s energy infrastructure and ordered troops to protect key sites.

“I have heard the briefings of the national security services and see that Ukraine is preparing further actions aimed at disrupting the operation of Hungary’s energy system,” Orbán said in a video posted on X.

The accusation adds fuel to a conflict Orbán has stoked with neighboring Ukraine as well as Brussels ahead of an April 12 parliamentary election in which he faces the prospect of defeat.

Because Ukraine has nothing better to do than sabotage the energy resources of an EU country. /s

Orban is a fucking joke. I hope Hungarians see through his bullshit.

Now the seed has been planted. Next Russia well attack Hungary pretending to be Ukraine, so article 5 week be invoked against Ukraine.

And then they all clapped

You joke, but they're literally that delusional. The worst thing is that Trump would probably jump at the opportunity - if the EU wasn't already aware of all this and it would be the final nail in the coffin for US/EU relations if they tried to push this false flag. But Putin is desperate and Trump does long for a smooching session with him.

Well, there was that thing with Nord Stream. I'm not saying that Orban isn't making this up but it isn't totally implausible.

Orban is about to get his ass handed to him in national elections. Creating a foreign policy crisis is his way of trying to stay in power. We've seen this with Netanyahu and Trump too. It's a distraction play.

The other guy isn't much different

Putin? Yeah I know right

It’s so, so obvious that his narrative is purely targeted on his domestic audience. I do hope Hungarians are aware of the insane media bias they’re being immersed in as a direct result of Orban’s bullshit… but then again, knowing how susceptible the idiots in my own country are to that stuff, who knows. :(

Wasting public money on ostensibly guarding an attack that won't be coming, but really just installing baseless fear is peak Orban.

I'm surprised the Druzhba pipeline still occasionally functions, despite Russia fighting a war against Ukraine for what is now 4 years.

Orban should not expect Druzhba to keep functioning forever. It will not be blown up in Hungary. It will be blown up, repaired, blown up, repaired, and finally blown up and no longer repaired - in Russia and most likely, also in Ukraine. There are no guarantees for its survival. All the alarms have been ringing for 4 years. If Orban wants oil, he should buy it from elsewhere than Russia. He has been offered oil through Croatia, it's just not Russian oil. He should accept the offer and forget about Druzhba.

As for Orban himself, if I was a Hungarian, I would get rid of him. He's likely setting records of corruption and media manipulation right now, trying to manipulate his way to re-election for the umpteenth time.
