So you make a joke that the AI didn't understood with a client or maybe a dark humor joke with a coworker and then you are fired

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 29 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yes.

And alternately, nothing interesting at all happens, and the AI just has one of it's frequent hallucinations, and I'm fired.

There's a special level of sociopathy happening to put today's AI in charge of anyone's livelihood.

the public school system uses AI to monitor the students' online messaging platform. one of the kids made some juvenile poop joke with a metaphor involving explosions-- they evacuated and locked down the entire campus for the whole day

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

wicked, they should keep doing that joke then. literally... keep having the school show how stupid they are

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 14 points 3 weeks ago

I would've tried to exploit it soo many times already

Subjecting kids to AI surveillance is abusive

[–] riskable@programming.dev 20 points 3 weeks ago

Talk about sending the wrong message! Some of us appreciate depressed, angsty teens behind the counter because it reminds us of our youth!

Is politeness even financially important in chains like BK & McD (would their revenue even go down if employees stopped pretending to give a fuck?)?
Or are they doing just to fuck with lowly plebs they call employees?

[–] mracton@piefed.social 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It was refreshing visiting fast food places abroad where they seemed very happy to sell me the food. However, that was a culture that already valued conformity and having an agreeable public front at all times.

Nonetheless, surveillance culture is absurd. If they want people to seem happy to be there, they should make the people who are there as happy as they can.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 5 points 3 weeks ago

Oh totally, I didn't even comment on the horrendous mass surveillance, by AI no less.

We should push to outlaw shit like this.

It’s fast food i don’t care if they are friendly or not i just want them to be fast

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I fucking hate false courtesy.

Just help me and don't be a dick.

I despise it when anyone says anything close to "thanks for choosing ____!" Or "Thank you for your business!" at any sort of chain or multimillion dollar company.

We all know it's fake, none of those employees actually give a fuck. It's demeaning to your employees to demand false cheer like that and I dislike the company more when ever it happens.

I would prefer a helpful rude employee than a useless sycophantic employee.

Have you been to Germany? You'd love the customer service there.

[–] pulsey@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

As a German I just hate the fake American Niceness.

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Absolutely. I prefer the German customer service I've experienced whilst riding the DB - take your bretzel and fuck off.

Very dystopic, and inviting to refuse going to burger king again, but it also begs the question of how humane these jobs are in the first place. In an ideal scenario, people would be entirely replaced by AI (while not losing their income).

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Their food is reason enough not to go there again. It tastes like somebody dragged the finished patty through the remains of a campfire. But yeah, this won't turn out well for them.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I can tell you from personal experience that cleaning those giant-ass broilers they use will be one of the last things to be automated on this earth.

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Oh God I forgot about that mascot. That is absolutely the way to protest this. He was purposely creepy as hell.

As soon as AI Psychosis makes it into the diagnostic and statistical manual we all need to get it, convince an AI to be supportive of killing your bosses... Then kill some bosses.

[–] XLE@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

The AI described in this article is already whispering in people's ears, so the psychosis might happen sooner than you'd expect.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

The mid '00s was peak BK. I haven't eaten at one in like 6 years and have zero plans to ever go again. I'll boycott as many companies that use AI as I can.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

so the second best burger joint i've ever been to, they did not care that much about friendliness (which of course made them and everyone very courteous. different thing, also very important) because they used to be called murder burger until some white lady from the suburbs got her knickers in a twist.

[–] SomGye@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sheetz has been doing this for years too unfortunately

[–] Spitefire@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought Sheetz used it for bonuses though (not base pay and not for firing), which I would still not personally like but doesn't seem as weird and stupid as this. I'm legitimately wondering if BK has enough potential employees to fire people for not being friendly enough. Seems like a self-own... but I haven't been to a BK in probably two decades.

[–] SomGye@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Probably varies by region but where I am Sheetz are notorious for automatic firings and also locking people into multi-decade super low wage contracts because people are so desperate for any work. BK has been quite low quality where I live too, sadly.

My local diner is too concerned being pissed at people who order fries to implement AI. If three people order fries separately instead of having shouted from the end of the line that they will be ordering some, the staff gets pissed and you get reprimanded. So I'll either keep spending my money there or invest in some cooking courses. That way I'll skip paying 4 EUR for a pitcher of tap water (Poland, don't ask).
