The argument, as I understand it, is that Israel is just a normal small country like any other small country, and any special focus on it suggests a sinister desire to single out Jews for discrimination.

But have you ever noticed how the same people who accuse Israel’s critics of “obsession” with a tiny insignificant country will also fall all over themselves to tell you that Israel is an indispensable ally whose interests are inextricably intertwined with the interests of western civilization?

A good analogy I heard recently was comparing being indifferent to zionism to being indifferent to giving up meat. Until you visit a slaughterhouse or one of those chicken factories, or see the climate data projected difference if everyone even just halves their meat intake, you don’t care.

Once you see what they have been doing for decades in the west bank, in Gaza, to Palestinians just wanting or needing to go in and out of Israel, what they have done to Lebanon and Syria, you can’t ever not be anti-zionist. You have to be an indoctrinated part of their cult to think that what they are doing is anything other than ethnic cleansing and Israeli expansionism.

Like we were "obsessed" with apartheid South Africa.

Would get only a small fraction of the attention if the US (and much of the western world) didn't go to ridiculous lengths to support it militarily, diplomatically, economically, and socially.

Second highest in happiness in the world, though, among youth.
