They are seeing that the end is finally coming into focus, and not only is MAGA going to be on the losing side, it's quickly becoming inevitable. And that end is going to be very, very ugly, with a lot of prison sentences, and perhaps even some death sentences.
So the slyest rats are starting to jump ship, while there is still a chance to grab some floating debris to escape on. He's just the first of many to follow.

I’m torn. Obviously the likes of Carlson and Rogen et. al. need to answer for their support. On the other hand, I’m not sure making them wear a hairshirt or scarlet “T” for the rest of their lives– while warranted– actually gets us closer to where we need to be, which is free of Trump and the other despots.
How they are punished is less about how impactful it will be for them than it is about setting an example for the next generation of dumb, greedy assholes who might be aiming to follow in their footsteps. “Hmm. After seeing what they do to Tucker Carlson, maybe I’ll put down my God Hates Fags sign…”
