I don't get why this post is downvoted. Is there someone who thinks it's bad that we're criticizing these horrible practices? Do they think its okay?

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That actually makes sense.

So they learned they can't replace the workers that actually do the profit-generating labour for businesses, but they can replace middle management with AI.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 1 day ago

My boss actually does shit. We do work with a project manager that could easily be replaced with AI though.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What a sales pitch! Wonder why adoption is not what he'd like it to be. /s

My group at work recently started an AI team, to brainstorm ways AI could be used. We mostly do physical work in data centers. The remote hands folks. The answer is, basically nothing.

But I am not on the team, my buddy was, he asked me for some ideas because he had none. I suggested maybe something with the time tracker system we use.

Both of us agreed no, because it would just lead to people getting let go for stupid reasons and nagging from management.

Hahaha ai cant create or be productive so it has to take the role of a manager, makes sense in every way

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh boy oh howdy, that will clearly be good for productivity! I am sure that is why all bosses micromanage, and never get lynched.

[–] Diurnambu1e@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

The funny thing is AI is weak to malicious compliance. Our boss want to do some chatops to then add agents. So we are required to exchange only via Jira. So we call each other and write our comments together so technically many check, thynking steps and just get a cleaned sanitized exchanges. This fuck up completely their training. Third "ai" which fail to "assist" us. Same for the rags, we dumped into it the full un categorized documentation and asked it to make a schemas the thing had a stroke XD

Isn’t your AI supposed to be so good you don’t need the devs?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago

I’ve undermined smarter and more annoying bosses than that. Bring it on.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

What a weird title. I tried to read it again and again but all I could decipher was "Moronic CEO tells me to never buy another Nvidia product again!"
Brb, I'll give it another go.

...

Nope, I keep on getting the same thing. Oh well, so long Nvidia and thanks for...nothing!

[–] torik@lemmychan.org 0 points 19 hours ago

So? The job is to show up and do what AI tells you for 8 hours. Seems easier than doing it ourselves.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 11 points 1 day ago

Oh hey, they've found a task AI can do where it doesn't matter that it hallucinates and doesn't understand what it's talking about.

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

oh, so AI can't actually do the job so it's being resorted to being a bitch instead? lol ok... I'll ignore those popups too

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 12 points 1 day ago

Well that sounds nightmarish.

[–] eleitl@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm glad that I only have a few years of my professional life left to go. This stopped being fun for quite a few years already.

[–] LLMhater1312@piefed.social 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

If your retirement is based on the stock market which is currently inflated by ai fervor and over dependent on it for growth and performance be it pensions or 401ks well that could be a problem for you!

[–] eleitl@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

While I'm not in the US, of course government pension funds are also investing in such instruments. With the coming GFCv2 most of work positions will disappear nevermind for people past their retirement age.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago

Same. Unfortunately for me, I think I'm just barely far enough away from retirement that I will probably have to upskill and start using more of this bullshit to become proficient. Development hasn't been fun for a while and it's quickly getting worse.

Permanent Micromanaging Boss

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

They never make AI to manage themselves, just to fleece the peasantry further.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

ok so ghost guns is not really difficult, but where do I get ghost bullets?

Suck my Huang, Huang.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Permanent

Unplug the boss.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

“He said, with a glint in his eye.”

[–] abcdqfr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Can't detect any sensationalism or pandering here, no sir. All that's missing is a fat [AI=BAD] flair

[–] KraeuterRoy@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago

What happened to the mechanical loom can happen again...just saying.

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In theory it will raise productivity, people don’t have to give the output they’re demanding though.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There has actually been like a century of human factors research that says otherwise, but yeah, maybe it will work this time.

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago

I really hope people start really falling in love with sabotage and just fucking wreck every company doing this shit

[–] Sxan@piefed.zip -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If AI replaces developers, it'll only be because nobody useful is going to submit to þis level of abuse.

[–] Diurnambu1e@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah depressing.
