Aside from ladybutterfly and sunshine, I only really recognize people that I've tagged. And I tend to tag people for pretty arbitrary reasons.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I generally don't recognize usernames and don't look at them too much
There's the guy who uses thorns (who I have tagged as Nigel þornberry)
There's maybe a half-dozen frequent posters who I'm genuinely not sure if they're masterful trolls, some kind of AI training bots, or just really need to go touch grass (preferably on their way to a therapist's office.)
There's one dude whose username just happened to stick out to me after having a random conversation or two with him and seeing him being a generally pretty decent dude around Lemmy, I tagged him "this guy seems cool" at some point, and at some point it occurred to me that he might appreciate knowing that, so I shot him a message, and sure enough he did. I now consider him to be a pretty good friend, which is a new experience for me, I've never really been one to have online friends, I (somehow) do pretty well at making friends in meatspace and have never really felt a need to seek out an online friendship.
There's a handful of people who have said some incredibly dumb shit that I've tagged (for example one dude who I tagged "Tankie, down vote and ignore" although the last few times I've seen him pop up it seems like he may have mellowed out a bit, so good for him)
Shout-out to "Nigel þornberry"
Added the tag now 😂
Nigel þornberry
Made me laugh :D
I've been here for 2 years and I only recognize violet08 and the_Picard_maneuver. Oh and Nicole, the girl with glasses who wanted me
Too dang many of y'all. I blame my job not caring if I'm on my phone, ignore the fact that it began years ago when I had a job that required actually paying attention all day.
Hey, I've seen your posts around. Mostly in !ComicsStrips@sh.itjust.works I think.
I comment on all, so maybe, but I've never posted there
I mostly recognize names in the art communities, especially if it's people posting their own art. You get to know a person's style.
A few stand out besides the most prolific posters. There's only a few other !sumo@lemmy.world fans on here so I remember sergio for sure. Otherwise I've seen a couple people making nitpicky grammar nazi type comments which kind of annoys me and is antithetical to how I see grammar as a descriptivist, so I tend to notice those. Seems to be less of it these days though; a couple years ago feels like I'd run into a handful of those comments every day.
A few people are notable to me, starting with mr furry himself who goes into NSFW topics to make jokes out of them, amongst other things, Kolanki or however you spell that is rarely 100% serious.
@Warl0k3@lemmy.world Pretty much I just like and respect scientists, and I did a stupid by involving her in a thread about batteries, forgetting she is not omniscient. (I also didn't expect her to post what she did, and was surprised big time, so double-burned into my memory).
@Staments (can't spell that). For posting like 90% of content, and being a notable person with ADHD.
@Violet08 obviously, for the moxy (social aptitude), and more obviously starting the whole hornyposting trend.
LadyButterfly is notable and present in many communities, so of course I recognize them. Also does a lot of mental health posts, so they are quite awesome imho.
ComradeSharkFucker for no earned reason actually, I just think the name is funny and tagged them whenever I see an user with the username Shark.
DortOwl, something about the pf, and they comment a lot in certain communities.
The chalice guy, and GreenKnight, they farm downvotes and are a necessary evil.
The administrator of coursr MrManager or something, what a funny username for an Admin to have.
I'm sure I recognize more when I see them, but I can't recall.
EDIT: @sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com how could I forget? I see him comment on a lot of posts and pissed him off often, but one day we corrected a misunderstanding, and he said something so perfect that I cursed being straight in that moment. Man almost single-handedly turned me gay. But unfortunately, I thought about it, but just can't enjoy men.
UnderpansWevil, man has a lot of hot takes iirc.
Boop or something was his username, for reposting and stealing likes. Being a pain in the ass to avoid.
most usernames I'm seeing here I have blocked, due to the prolific nonsense they post.
If they comment/post a lot and use an avatar or have emojis in their display name, I probably recognize them.
Very few I recognize by name alone.
I’m the exact opposite. My client doesn’t have avatars and I gloss over emojis but I remember most folks who are furry or furry-adjacent, especially you because my client tags upvote counts and you’re at like +165.
Scrolled through found many recognisable names ladybutterfly, kolanaki, lots of others.
Didn't see Blaze@piefed.zip shout out required.
Its interesting a lot of the names I see are definitely found in the 'all' crowd of lemmy, but theres lots of users who are prolific, but spend their time in more secluded areas of the network that i'd recognise.
I recognize kolanki (I doubt I'm spelling it correctly, but the person with the large blue name), pugjesus, the picard maneuver, violet08, that fucking cm0002 with the 5,000 alt accounts, and that's about it.
Well, I recognize a few people. But I'm to busy to really post and comment to much to be known. But hey, while I'm here does anyone recognize me?
What happened to flying squid? They had some health problems and then talked about moving and then disappeared.
I think this place wasn't too healthy for them mentally, and I'm fairly certain after moving they just bowed out of coming back and focused on rebuilding their life in a new country, or at least I hope they did. Lemmy also skews heavily US American (less so than reddit but still largely) and so maybe they just wanted to disconnect from things here in the USA. If I was in a new place I think I'd spend more time trying to get my bearings locally than reading endless news about the place I just left.
If you check in lemvotes you can see some activity from time to time, so I don't think they are dead. It could be a federation issue but they at least appear to have logged in and had some vote activities in December.
Regardless they did not have a healthy relationship with Lemmy. They were averaging something on the order of 15 comments, per hour, per day. That's a comment every 4 minutes, all day, every day, for years.
Idk. We should still probably build something to remember them by. Or to piss on, depending on how you viewed them. They were very political and were doing a lot of "pre blaming" for the, at the time, election which hadn't happened yet. I think it may have broken them.
Kind of a scary question lol.
I recognize a few people here and there. Some mentioned already. I tend to remember Prole. I think they have my highest number od up votes per voyager. But I think what really makes them stick out is the fact I agree with 99% of their posts I see, but every now and again they say something I very much disagree with. Which throws me for a loop
We used to see a MargotRobbie but they stopped. Dunno why. They committed to the bit, though.
