Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

My dog is a bc. He rides with me everywhere but he loves the winter for some reason. That whole back end of my SUV is like a giant play room for him. All toys, some bones, and a small comforter. I am always concerened that one day a person is going to see my Buddy and smash the windows in the car in summer when the air is on. Or winter when a little bit of heat is on. And yes I will say it i am a big pushover for animals.

Not sure about when. However, anyone seeing that the dog is fine os liable for any damage caused. Put up a sign or something to make it obvious that there's no need to try be a hero today. Any damage caused can only be defended if they were obviously acting to help in an emergency - ignoring signage does not constitute an emergency.

Also, this picture comes to mind:

My mom's dog loves car rides too, and my previous car used to belong to my parents. The snout marks on the inside of the windows and the fur stuck in the interior never went away, lol.

Yea but do we really know if it’s the dogs favorite music or the owners? That might just matter! The little sumbitch might just want the hell out of there!

...are you leaving the car running while you aren't there? Because if so, I don't think your biggest concern should be getting your window smashed.

[–] Patnou@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Typically I do if I am getting gas and have to walk in to pay. But we had to quit wal-mart because hero wannabes

Are you saying you leave the car running while fueling the car?

If so, that's a easy way to meet Jesus early.

[–] Patnou@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No. But when I am done i turn it back on drive up to the door and pay and while i am paying he is in there.

Seems like a good way to get your car stolen, with your dog inside.

Most modern auto's with remote start also have a feature where you can leave it running, lock it, and take the keys with you. If someone does smash the window, it shuts down as soon as the brake is pressed.

You have to leave signs.

There are new cars that have Dog Mode, that keep the car from getting in the hundreds of degrees.

I never heard of this, but that's awesome.

Put a thermometer in plain view and tape your phone number to the window as a backup in case someone is unable to see the thermometer, or your AC has malfunctioned and there is an actual issue.

Yeah we can do the obvious and look back at a 10,000 years of human history where dogs were always kept in climate controlled homes for their protection.

[–] wabasso@lemmy.ca -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Should you be allowed to leave your dog at home?

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes. That is a difference in kind.

[–] wabasso@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I should have been more specific and less snarky.

If we can leave our dogs in our houses for several hours, I think it’s reasonable to leave our dogs in cars for several minutes (assuming climate control). I felt “Never” was too extreme.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The amount of energy from sunlight it takes to warm a car up to a dangerous levels is far lower then for a house.

The Australian law is no more than ten minutes on a day over 28 Celsius.

That said for me it depends on the dog and how the dog is feeling right then. My dog is half Chihuahua, he'll lie on the concreted in the backyard on 40+ days when everyone is posting about how it's dangerous for dogs to be out in the heat. I've known a bunch of kelpies - Australian working farm dogs - that are just fine in the heat as long as it's not extreme.
