[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 46 points 2 weeks ago

nobody foresaw it but in hindsight it's exactly what would happen in America

[–] axont@hexbear.net 36 points 2 weeks ago

It makes sense only because lone wolf assassins in America are gonna be completely incoherent and that trends towards a middle ground centrism

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

It does make sense because centrist libs are the only ones still taking "america" seriously

there's like twenty principled leftists in this godforsaken 'nation', not exactly a big recruitment pool for adventurists

[–] dragongloss@hexbear.net 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What an incoherent ideology does to an individual. Also Luigi is innocent. I will not tolerate Luigi slander. Yes, I give him a free pass because he is hot. panting

we were at the Lenin museum pool hall in Ulaanbaatar that day, he can't have done it.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

I always wondered why he had to leave our book club in New Mexico that day, now it makes sense

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Scratch a centrist and an extremist bleeds?

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago

To be a centrist right now, is actually intensely extreme. Like imagine watching polarization happening, facism rise, capital dropping all of the pretenses its covered itself in, full imperial boomrang and thinking "we can save this", or that there's anything worth saving. Im just a simple communist, that looks pretty extreme to me

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's fucked up how in a way it makes sense

The media and the democrats keep telling centrist libs that voting is the only thing that will do anything while actively demonstrating that voting won't get them jack shit

Force people to keep running directly into the picture of a tunnel painted on a wall like wile e coyote for a fucking decade and some of them are bound to snap

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The centrist libs are also the only ones who have deluded themselves into the idea that Trump isn't a real American. That America is good, but Trump/Russia have corrupted it. They have a great person idealism that allows them to believe that if they took out Trump that most problems would be immediately resolved.

Those on the radical left have a systematic analysis with a century of history of ideological grappling with adventurism and assassination and it's inadequacy. We also don't believe that the problems with America start or end at Trump, we instead see him merely as an avatar of the actual forces driving history and another puppet could be chosen easily. Those on the right love Trump or are indifferent to him, so they wouldn't have any reason to snap at the government. Those in the center are the only ones who really truly feel they are correct and that they can save the world with a single action.

Turns out when you spend a lifetime of telling people "a better world isn't possible." they immediately turn to violent adventurism. Who'da thunk?

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

The Second Coming William Butler Yeats

This rocks, and it's so appropriate!

[–] Soot@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

Funny, but I'm not convinced the people who are murderously opposed to health insurance CEOs and USA presidents are the problem

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

i do find it disturbing that rodriguez is memory-holed so much, the most coherent of them all

[–] QuietCupcake@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good point, I have to admit I forgot about him too. What is up with that though? I would have thought he'd be more consistently demonized, seeing as he was the only one who could be said to actually be a leftist and had some genuinely correct views. Or I maybe that's it, there's incentive not to remind anyone of him lest more people start looking into his reasoning, where as these others are mostly just boilerplate libs?

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

if they make it into a giant culture war issue it's gonna turn into another luigi situation with the masses all siding with the killer. I think they'd rather just use it on the downlow as propaganda within zionist circles but not really emphasize it in the 'public square' where Israel is...rather unpopular currently

[–] QuietCupcake@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

Good points. That all fits pretty well.

Ah thought we just meant in the attempted trump assassin category, but yeah I haven't thought about it in a while, not since I had to correct some lemmitor that not all the deaths in that incident were Jewish

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

well luigi also falls outside of that. there was also a guy who shot up blackstone office while wanting to shoot some sportsball thingy, also clear eyed about political motivations.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yes lol, it's a strong swear in Italian usually used at the beginning or end of sentence to express very strong frustration. It would be like starting or ending sentence with "holy fuck" in English or "kurwa mać" in Polish.
