Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Yeah, why doesn't she remember all the dates of battles and kings' deaths?

the emphasis should be on "failing", not on "and"

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 29 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (3 children)

I would also accept emphasis on "Medieval History"

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 hour ago

Or even on "you're

[–] morto@piefed.social 4 points 2 hours ago

Just underline everything, like students marking what's important to read

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago

Shatner, is that you?

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago

Just missing Ren Fairs from the mix to complete the trifecta. Would still be failing tho.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 49 minutes ago

Not giving a fuck about something that doesn't engage your mind makes perfect sense to me.

Half the people in my CS classes couldn’t tell the difference between MacOS and Windows. They were just there to β€˜learn a new career’. I don’t understand it either.

It was windows soup I think the new ones were like xp but that might've been later they basically didn't have security it was literal kid shit if you mean the fail I hated the teacher and didn't respect her because I was like an angry teenage atheist and had like principles about things like tests vs homework so I'd prove I knew stuff but not rehearse bullshit and the asshole teacher was trying yo be like condescending about the subject matter becaisevof position but she did not know how to open PDF and it was a whole thing I was kind of an asshole kid and I'm not sure I was wrong and I'm pretty sure she was in the wrong but I definitely was being shitty and not good about it I was kind of going through some stuff

[–] oxideseven@lemmy.ca 29 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

I found these. I think they are yours.

It was windows soup - I think the new ones were like xp but that might've been later.

They basically didn't have security, it was literal kid [script kiddy] shit.

If you mean the fail[ing-part]:
I hated the teacher and didn't respect her, because I was an angry teenage atheist [?]. [I] had principles about things like tests [&] homework, so I'd prove I knew stuff but not rehearse bullshit. The asshole teacher was trying yo [sic] be condescending about the subject matter because of [her] position, but she did not know how to open PDF ... It was a whole thing.

I was kind of an asshole kid, and [I might have been] wrong. I'm pretty sure she was in the wrong, but I definitely was being shitty and not [nice]; I was kind of going through some stuff.

Thank you so, so much!

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 hours ago

Is this loss?

[–] Mesophar@pawb.social 2 points 4 hours ago

I think they might be a descendent of Lord Timothy Dexter

[–] GimmeUrBelt@lemmy.today 8 points 4 hours ago

You are correct. I cannot read this.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 7 points 6 hours ago

Worse, I don't think there's any chance that Medieval History is a required course, so it's an elective that she chose herself, probably because of the same things pointed to in the comic.

[–] username_1@programming.dev 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

What has D&D and Goth movement to do with Medieval history?

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The Crimean Goths stayed distinct and independent until 1475, and Visigoths were traditionally significant players in the 1492 Reconquista that expelled the Moors from the Iberian peninsula.

[–] PrimeMinisterKeyes@leminal.space 2 points 56 minutes ago

You mean the Moops.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure why you got downvoted. D&D is a medieval fantasy; I'm not familiar with any campaign set in our world let alone a historically accurate version of our world. And the goth movement of today is an aesthetic that I'm not sure even has a direct link to the Goths that challenged Rome, just like someone going around destroying shit wouldn't have a direct link to the Vandals or maybe even know that the crime is named after the people who sacked Rome.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 1 points 46 minutes ago

the goth movement of today is an aesthetic

A purist would say that it's focused on a specific set of post-punk music acts and the people inspired by them.

Nowadays, yeah, it just means anyone who dresses "dark" regardless of what kind of music they like or scene they hang out in. Which I think is cool, wtf, the music is still there if people want to listen to it: !gothindustrial@lemmy.world

the Goths that challenged Rome

I think the joke relies on "goth" as in "gothic fiction"

The name of the genre is derived from the Renaissance-era use of the word "gothic", as a pejorative term meaning medieval and barbaric, which itself originated from Gothic architecture and in turn the Goths.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_fiction

So there's only really a tenuous link to medieval history, let alone goth in the musical or aesthetic sense. The joke would make a lot more sense if the kid was into the Society of Creative Anachronism and Historical European Martial Arts, but I suspect not enough people know about those.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 9 points 7 hours ago

Don't worry, kid's gonna get an A in Renaissance History.
