Wow Texas so free. Free to not have clean drinking water.

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That water is filled with electrolytes.

[–] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

It's got what plants crave

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 12 points 19 hours ago

Well, if they want drinkable water then the market will provide it

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 3 points 19 hours ago

Don’t forget the power grid problems.

Jennifer Combs of Trinidad TX. Trinity river is a dumping ground and has been for a long while. Can't wait to hear what she does with the payout.

I'm not watching Fux news. What did they charge her with?

[–] EpeeGnome@feddit.online 76 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Felony false alarm or report under Texas Penal Code § 32.06 for saying she had heard reports of hospitalizations from drinking the water, but the police had not heard any such reports. She's now suing the city, the police chief, and one specific city council member. The mayor talked openly with the news about the water issues, but declined to make any comment on the arrest.

Follow up video: The DA did actually file charges, but a grand jury refused to indict, so the case is over. Another guy from out of town got arrested (on live stream) for holding a sign in front of the police station protesting the arrest. He was charged with a misdemeanor, but the judge dismissed it immediately.

police=hospital staff now?

[–] EpeeGnome@feddit.online 4 points 10 hours ago

If the police didn't hear about it, how can anyone be sure it really happened? Seriously though, it sounds like there was more to it than just that, since she said her lawsuit will include a specific (but unnamed in the video) city council member.

I’m not watching Fux news.

Fox News is a far right cable "news" channel. This is a segment from a Fox Broadcasting affiliate in Dallas. They are unrelated to the cable channel.

[–] diverging@piefed.social 23 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

It's not the same thing but it's not unrelated. It's owned by the same company that owns Fox News.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 20 hours ago

Or worse, they are owned by Sinclair

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 10 points 21 hours ago

It's all Fux and Rupert Murdoch.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Saw this earlier this morning. Was not surprised it was Texas. Government there doesn't really care about the citizens and is most concerned about keeping power.

Public reports of basic civic failures that cause sickness and death would obviously be silenced.

Notice the lack of urgency by the mayor and other authorities, and the fact she had to file a civil case to get any response at all.

The movie Brazil was supposed to be absurdist. It was not a model for governance.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

This is what authoritarianism is. Laws don't matter, say or do anything that is critical of the state and you're in handcuffs.

[–] DrWorm@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Felony false alarm or report

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

So did people get hospitalized or not?

[–] DrWorm@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 hours ago

Unclear. There were reports on Facebook, but they weren’t verified. That’s part of what she was trying to do: get information on the hospitalizations

[–] tedd_deireadh@piefed.social 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I got you. Felony False Alarm and Report was the charge.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 10 points 21 hours ago

Police should be arrested for Felonly False Arrest for violating her first amendment rights.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 0 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

This is a local affiliate, not "that" Fox News.

If they wear the Nazi uniform, they're a Nazi. They don't get a pass for being a little lower on the food chain.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 20 hours ago

Still owned by Murdoch

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 16 points 21 hours ago
[–] ZeroCool@piefed.ca 27 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Well, she wasn't wrong, that water looks like shit. Literally.
