Is Adolf a safe name yet? How long needs to pass?
Showerthoughts
A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
Why would you want to?
I wouldn't, im not German it would be silly, but for other Germans. Edit : Austrians and Belgians abd etceteras.
Also the moustache AND hair have been absolutely banned for many a young gentleman since then
The stache for sure, but the hair?
I disagree, because Donald is already owned by many other famous figures, many predating trump. It is a name with notoriety, but it is more in grounds with say Napoleon Bonaparte, and other such significant political entities. The dilution period for his name will be even sooner than Napoleon though because of the popularity of his name, so we probably won't see it entirely disappear from naming conventions the way Adolf has. It might raise eyebrows within certain social circles for a while, but honestly not much more, particularly as you leave the American sphere of influence.
Donald, Vladimir, Zedong, Jinping, Il, or Un
Also sort of shifty is Muammar and Hugo.
Joseph seems a little more benign by comparison, no?
Small correction: Jong is Kim Jong Un’s given name, not Un. his father was Kim Jong Il whose given name was also Jong and his father was Kim Il Sung whose given name is Il.
Can Cyril make a return then?
Real dude... I was writing a story a while back, and usually when naming characters I just pull one from the noggin that "feels right", and I fell on "Donnie" for a young delinquent that was meant to bite off more than he can chew picking a fight with real criminals. When I revisited it a bit later in time, I internally cringed and had to pick a different name altogether lol
Shame because I felt like the name suited him so well that I wound up not continuing the story much after that.
