My favorite port of Doom was the wacky PSDoom where it spawned enemies that were your processes and you could renice or kill the processes by hurting or killing them.

The pregnancy test is wild

[–] TheBrideWoreCrimson@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

Wikipedia says it also ran/ runs on Atari Jaguar, Risc PC and whatever a "Tapwave Zodiac" is.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 20 minutes ago* (last edited 6 minutes ago)

Tapwave Zodiac was a gaming focused PDA. Kind of the Steam Deck of its time, except almost no one bought it. I watched most of the old Doctor Who on one.

Fun fact, Stargate Atlantis used them as sci-fi scanner props.

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 44 minutes ago

Some grad students made an e coli based display and ran doom on it https://www.popsci.com/science/doom-e-coli-cells/

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, I knew about the potato, buy I didn't know you can play doom on doom itself! How does that work?

[–] ApertureUA@lemmy.today 7 points 1 hour ago

Some version(s?) of Doom have an in-game arcade cabinet with Doom IIRC

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 hours ago

I don't think Philips makes televisions or other consumer electronics any more, so I assume it's been ported on smart light bulbs or medical equipment.

Came here for this. Doom on a pregnancy test is by far the most impressive!

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Well mostly the others used whatever chip is on the device, that one only used the display sadly

[–] ApertureUA@lemmy.today 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

[–] Echo5@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Now how do I get it onto classified laptops 🤔

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 53 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Doom in Doom, lol. And there's also Minecraft in Minecraft. And Doom runs in Minecraft. Is there a Doom in Doom that runs in Minecraft in Minecraft?

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 16 points 5 hours ago

Be the change that you want to see in the world... :-P

[–] 6244901@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

Why the fuck is there a camera icon :3

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 4 hours ago

Doom on a toaster would have a terrible frame rate.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 91 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 29 points 9 hours ago

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)
[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I don't see 3DO or Jaguar there.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Downloading is one issue, but how do I install it on the potato?

[–] eodur@piefed.social 3 points 5 hours ago

I didn't realize there was a Doom package for NextCloud. I'm not even sure why I was surprised.

They forgot Rockbox. I still have an old Sansa Clip with Rockbox on it that plays Doom with no problems.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 23 minutes ago

I played Doom on my 30GB Ipod with Rockbox on it. It was stupid hard to control with the wheel, but it did in fact run.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, I have also played it on there. Just to give others an idea, we're talking an MP3 player from 2007, that looks like this:

Here's an article showing the successor model running Doom: https://hackaday.com/2016/12/30/sansa-mp3-player-runs-doom-unplayably/
