GW1 hands down is one of the most creative online RPGs

GW2 has nothing of what made guildwars fun for me

hopefully GW3 is a mix of both ? open world MMO with the skills system of GW1

[–] Million@lemmy.zip 1 points 21 minutes ago

When GW2 came out, lots of GW1 fans didnt really connect with it.

Hope we GW2 fans are not gonna feel the same about GW3.

But even if GW3 was not made for GW2 audience, we are still getting another one.

Both current GW games are different and good.

Guild Peace when?

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

I've never really played any GW games, but a honest to goodness new MMO from a experienced studio is exciting! For so long the genre have been awash with kickstarter scams like Ashes of Creation or multiple Ultimas, it's encouraging to have some hope.

Fashion Wars 3!? In this economy?

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I hope the combat has stronger identity in this one. Really love GW2 but the combat felt very flimsy and each identity seems like tried to be different from usual rpg roles and never had a solid identity that felt as good as classic roles.

[–] r3g3n3x@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 hour ago

I’ll probably get blow back but I was never a fan of the combat. I’d prefer tank heal dps. I love literally everything else about the game except the combat.

[–] fenrasulfr@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

I am excited for the next installment. I will most likely preorder the game, I have thouroughly enjoyed their current games and are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I wonder how action orriented they will make the game. I saw some speculation that it will be a lot like warframe.

[–] godsammitdam@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 hours ago

They better let me keep my GWAMM title lol

[–] Folstar@lemmus.org 11 points 11 hours ago

I look forward to playing 5 years after release once ANET has changed their mind about core design choices a few times, fluctuated between unique classes and homogenization, and exhaust their thesaurus to be different than other MMOs. I know that sounds sarcastic, but I really do like GW2. I actually have it open on the other monitor right now- I'm in Mistlock smelting mithril ingots. I'm not sure why ANET has such a difficult time sticking to design choices, but eventually it seems to work out.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 36 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Several thousand hours in gw2. Really liked it.

I hope they keep the stuff I liked. Solo friendly but other people are around to casually join up or whatever. No level grinding. No gear grind.

[–] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 4 points 7 hours ago

Truly that the core, if you look stuck or having an hard time, passing people often help.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 14 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe a little less storage management, though.

[–] Takios@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 hours ago

how else are they going to sell more inventory slots? :D

[–] Kn1ghtDigital@lemmy.zip 35 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Of course arenanet are in the best position to make a new mmo, I can't wait. Gw2 made me get into illustration.

[–] Brewchin@lemmy.world 20 points 13 hours ago

I can see why. The loading/travel screen art blew me away on release and still does now.

I don't often get my hopes up for new games any more, but I kinda have for this.

[–] LuckyFogic@kbin.earth 9 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

I'm genuinely very excited for this, but I have to ask: What use is this video as far as an advertisement? What does the video add beyond what an official headline with GW3 on it couldn't? There's no gameplay, information, nothing but some pretty pictures and a voice-over. The most I could gather is there's some form of rock climbing, there's mounts, and there are classes. But even some of that might be off.

[–] Overspark@piefed.social 3 points 3 hours ago

It shows off:

  • where it takes place (ancient Orr)
  • that that place is mostly a wilderness (as the game takes place a thousand years before the first one)
  • some playable races (Kodan bears are new, Asura and humans are not, Charr won't be in this one due to the time period)
  • different mount types (flying dragon is probably a mount too)
  • different modes of movement, which is a large focus of this game
  • gliders
  • the style they're going for, evolved from GW2

And I've probably missed a ton of things. Once you really start looking at it there's actually a lot going on.

[–] DireTech@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 hours ago

Yeah aside from the mounts this looked like some generic unreal engine demo using generic assets. They’d be better off just showing the logo until they have some actual content to show.

Kinda par for the course for guild wars PR though. GW2 had some weirdly bad promo videos.

[–] Nikko882@lemmy.world 20 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. I loved GW2, even though I haven't kept up with it in a while, so I'm interested to see what they are planning for the sequel. Orr also seems like a fun setting. I live the descriptions in GW2 of Orr pre-sinking. (Also, the gods (presumably) saying "we promise you magic" is funny, considering how horribly that ends in this case.)

However, GW2 is dripping in style, and I love the painterly style it has. I'm not seeing that same style in this trailer. It looks kinda generic, tbh. (The design of the mount is stellar, though.)

Also, being set in the past means that the Sylvari don't exist yet, and the Charr are still the "great enemy", so those two are out. We seem to have gained Kodan as a playable race, though (probably means no Norn as well, since they would have quite a bit of overlap). Also, this seemed like the perfect chance to give the people the Tengu they have wanted, but playable Tengu remains a dream, it seems.

[–] Snickeboa@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

I’m hyped for this for the most part. But you pointed out what I felt but couldn’t put my finger on: the visual style does look kinda generic in the trailer. I hope that they evolve this into a more unique or stylized style.

[–] IEatDaFeesh@lemmy.world -5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I hope you can change the movement key for this game unlike GW2. It was locked to left click if I remember correctly. I dropped it immediately bc of that lolol

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think you remember correctly. It uses regular WASD movement and has been using that since launch.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

If you hold rightclick then leftclick will make the character run forward.

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

True, you can do that, but that's an optional secondary movement style. Would be odd to drop the game over something you don't have to use.

[–] IEatDaFeesh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It's also odd that I couldn't change hotkeys in 2024. If they're cutting corners at that level then is it really worth spending my time given that there are other games that scratch that itch with better customizations?

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

But why did you have to rebind that particular key combination, when you could have just rebound the regular "move forward" key (W) or added a secondary binding? The result would have been the same. It seems like an odd hill to die on to me, but you do you.

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 17 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Oh damn??? Looks like MMORPGs aren't dead after all. I would have loved to see some gameplay but it's nice knowing there's an honest to god new mmo being made by a big studio.

[–] MrQuallzin@pie.eyeofthestorm.place 10 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Sure hope they're not dead, FF XIV is thriving!

[–] syklemil@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 hours ago

Speaking of ffxiv, if I had a penny for every MMO trailer with tapestry artwork I've seen come out this year, I'd have two pennies, etc

(FFXIV Evercold trailer being the first one)

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 12 points 14 hours ago

Same with gw2 and wow but we're talking 21, 16, and 14 year old games here lol, every "major" new MMO since those 3 has died... it's not exactly inaccurate to call the genre dead.

Shout-out the return of Gloria Victis next week too, best pvp MMO I've ever played, the sieges are insane.

[–] Bipauler@sh.itjust.works 5 points 12 hours ago

Damn. I'm only like three expansions and a bunch of living world episodes behind.. shit

[–] Statick@feddit.online 16 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I'm excited for this but really upset that the beta is in FALL OF 2027...

[–] illi@piefed.social 1 points 8 hours ago

Agreed, was hoping for a shorter hype cycle.

And like most mmo launches, it’s really just an EA launch with the real content to be reworked and added later.

[–] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 12 points 15 hours ago

Wow. Pretty excited to see this. I loved GW2 a lot.

[–] 5PACEBAR@piefed.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

GW2 is one of my favorite games. I'll be pre-ordering the shit out of this!

[–] Dremor@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

I honestly hope this will play better on the Deck than GW2.

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 10 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm a huge fan. But this isn't making me throw away my legendaries to start anew.

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 7 points 14 hours ago

They already stated they will continue simultaneous development of all 3 games. Plus Anet genre hops each game, 3 is going to be more action adventure, so no reason to stop playing 1 or 2 even after 3 hits it's stride.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Even though I really did not enjoy the 600/700 hours I put into gw2 I still have high hopes for gw3 and will likely buy it. The art and world alone is just so beautiful, the character dress up is great, pvp is great (please release with Aussie servers this time Anet)

[–] loonsun@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why did you put so much time in if you didn't like it

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 1 points 4 hours ago

You got to give MMOs a good go and I really wanted to like Gw2 as a massive fan of Gw1. When it was brand new I finished the game in about 300hr and played PVP and WvW. I then returned a few times for the DLCs to see if I could find enjoyment.

[–] fiohnah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 14 hours ago

But I want to be a planty people ;_; Still amazing though!!
