So bad we went so woke, it was a happier world before.

People were so much better looking when they smiled.

You know what they say: go woke, you blew up my battleship.

“G-4”

“You woke my battleship!”

For some it for sure was

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (11 children)

This is what I don't understand. Yes, corporations pander to marginalised demographics, but I have not once seen them lose significant income or have been boycotted. Fascist corporations, meanwhile, lost customers and stocks like Target and Tesla.

Like really, who's going broke? Methinks this is projection from the right, or disinformation from state or non-state actors alike to keep the population divided.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 24 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

To be right wing is to be ruled by emotions. Humans are all emotional creatures, but for some people it reaches a point where emotion alone creates reality. Facts are there to be picked up or set aside to support feelings. When their guy eats ice cream it's because he's a man of the people. When your guy eats ice cream it's because he's a baby. Facts don't matter. It's feelings.

And most of their feelings seem to be fear. Fear of loss. Fear of humiliation. You can show them stats and history demonstrating how, like, a diverse workforce leads to higher productivity and greater happiness, but that doesn't matter. They're not looking at facts. They're feeling feelings.

Imagine trying to talk to someone who's drunk. That's the right wing, except all the time and they can't really sober up. Honestly, it sounds like hell.

I like that this demon boy is obviously holding that poor family hostage and they have to indulge his every bullshit.

I can't see anywhere on the box it claims it's fun for the entire family. It's a two person game after all.

[–] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

In fairness, you're right. I just spent a few minutes looking at higher resolution images of the box and it does not make that claim.

That said, the meme captures the spirit of an era pretty perfectly. I still think it hits the nail on the head.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 49 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What? I see an entire family having fun: men with the advertised product and women with seeing their men happy.

I don’t understand the complaints here.

[–] veni_vedi_veni@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The woman must never interrupt the man, for men do important things

[–] Gismonda@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

…and the women wash the dishes.

MAGAots:

SEE? EVERYONE IS HAVING FUN! NOT A WOKE ASPECT IN SIGHT!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME ON THIS MATTER!

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 54 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

The re-release fixed the woman problem

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 47 points 2 weeks ago

Rest assured, the women are still in the kitchen. it's just behind a wall now so they don't bother the men.

[–] ValiantDust@feddit.org 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can't misrepresent women if you don't represent them. Taps forehead.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago

Real "I can't be racist towards a race that no longer exists" energy.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

No misogyny if no women 💯

The scary part is, that for them "everyone" is having fun. Because women are usually not included in their everyone.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 weeks ago

If course not, "everyone" refers to people, not things.

(It’s because they’re women)

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 13 points 2 weeks ago

[–] drspawndisaster@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

What's the problem? It's just like my favorite book, Men Are From Mars, Women Belong In The Kitchen Making Me A Fried Bologna Sandwich.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 10 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

In the last frame there is a thing that looks like a post it note or a paper stuck to the wall which we don't see in the previous two frames - and they're all supposed to be the same image, only zoomed in. It's too blurry to be read but it appears to have something written on it, any clues as to what that is?

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 20 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

In the before-times people would purchase objects that were displayed on "shelves". They would pick the object up and carry it to a "cashier" who would then look at a small sticker called a "price tag" on the item, and charge the customer that amount.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Still, it's weird that the zoomed-in image came from a different copy of the game than the other two. (Or that they took off the sticker before taking another photo, and then didn't use that new photo for the zoomed-in image.)

[–] natecox@programming.dev 9 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I feel like the “ai” upscaling comment is probably right. The women in the last frame have a lot more detail and contrast, in addition to a partially illegible price tag that wasn’t there before.

Like, it could be from a different photo, but why would the creator go find a whole different picture when they had one right in front of them?

I have this version of Battleship.

It is crazy; that this seemed like a good idea to put on the box, at any point in the past.

[–] LavaPlanet@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

All that 50's "advertising" that was essentially social conditioning and oppression, hear me out, because all the women had to do all the jobs while the men were gone. They got a taste of freedom, their own money and skills. They were all like, how hard can it be, boys do it. But when the men came back they had to shove them back in the box, they had to effectively put the cat back in the bag, it required a huge effort of bullying from the government and all. Like they hit hard with this kinda pervasive stuff, everywhere. That's when women were forced into the "get in the kitchen" role. Now we get to have both! Work AND be predominantly responsible for the majority of the house labor and child raising, yay!

Even if it's hallucinated by the AI who enlarged the image, I like how the wife has smeared lipstick on her like Joker

I think that's a knife in her left hand

The girl whispers "do it mom"

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 18 points 2 weeks ago

I think this meme is quite a bit older than the AI craze.

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Can I share this in !WomensStuff@lazysoci.al it's right up our street

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

OK but those dishes better be done before you do.

/s also it's not oc so it's definitely fair game for stealing/crossposting

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 10 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck you for making me laugh at this.
