So... whats the endgame here. Seriously, I don't want to sound all 2nd amendment-y, but have they ever seen a machete? It's just a chunk of sheet metal with an edge, you can make one in a few minutes with an angle grinder. At a certain point you're going to have to accept that humans have been killing each other for a long damn time and they're not going to stop just because you removed some of the tools. The only real solution to stop the cycle of violence is to embrace social programs and public welfare. Preferably before you get to the point you're implementing atlatl control and rounding up black teens for carrying rocks in a public place.

I don't think there is much of an endgame beyond don't give the opposition a chance to say you're "weak on crime". It won't work or change much, but it's the look of doing something that matters to the public.
