Yeah, pretty fucking sure it's going to be 1200€+ here in the EU. That's a hard sell for people with a quest or the index.

If your post is only relevant to one hardware device (Deck/Machine/Frame/etc) please specify which one as part of the title or by using a device flair.
These are not enforced, but they are encouraged.
Rules:
- Follow the rules of Sopuli
- Posts must be related to Steam Hardware or Steam OS in an obvious way.
- No piracy, there are other communities for that.
- Discussion of emulators are allowed, but no discussion on how to illegally acquire ROMs.
- This is a place of civil discussion, no trolling.
- Have fun.
Based on the controller, I'm not expecting to be able to get one for a bit.
I just want this to push devs to crack the meta headsets wide open. Unlock the bootloader, let me flash SteamOS. I don’t want new hardware but I do want to be free of meta and the quest is the only thing keeping me there, even if it’s with a throw away account.
Fucking please. I have an index but bought a quest for my wife to be able to play with me and meta support is far and away the WORST support experience I have had in my entire life. It's comically bad. Also steam link with the quest is rough, and I fucking refuse to give meta any money for games so it's basically shelved at the moment.
If you have weird issues with fps/resolution with a Quest over steam link or any PCVR stuff, make sure it's using the correct API for Steam (like alvr or Steam's own thing) and not the meta one.
I don't know what else you run in the house, but if you have a gaming rig and happe to run Linux I've had great success with ALVR for two years, then recently WiVRn. Both are wireless streaming solutions that replace Steam VR/Steam Link and according to my friends who also run Quest 3s I get way better performance. Obviously your mileage may vary with hardware/network etc. but it's better then not using your gear.
I did a test run of bazzite on a SHIT laptop that deserves to be thrown in the trash and it was a more or less positive experience for general gaming. When I installed it on my main rig, literally no steam games would launch and I honestly couldn't be assed to troubleshoot at the time.
wasnt alvr in that list of compromised aur packages?
It was, but I built from their git. 😁
good to hear, stay safe out there
It's using linux for OS, apparently. I want to code cool stuff for it.
Linux on arm!
No, Linux on face.
Faceux.
Basically Arch btw
this, this right here is the thing I've been dying for, I could give two shits about the gabecube but please god do not let them fuck this up/let this not be exorbitantly expensive. It's a reasonably powerful linux machine I can strap to my face with cameras and an expansion port on it, I can think of many cool things I'd like to do with that, and many more things more intelligent people than I are going to come up with and make directions or kits for.
I've been waiting years to get a VR set... I'll never touch meta anything and I've been waiting for valve to release an update to the index... Finally they do and we have this fucking ai driven ram crisis to contend with... I just hope they don't sell out instantly
They absolutely will. This thing will not be in regular stock for years.
Right there with you bud but I dunno, its not looking good!

With a snapdragon 8, and 16 gigs of ram it won’t be cheap. That’s for sure.

But the Snapdragon is only a Gen 3. It shouldn't cost more than a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra which comes with a Elite Gen 5 CPU but it probably will. The Steam Deck price hike is outrageous for 4 years old hardware.

It matches increase in BOM. It sucks, but it makes sense when you think about it
The CPU being a few years old will definitely help. But Valve has nowhere near the economies of scale that Samsung does. And 16 gigs of ram in this economy? Valve has said that they don't intend to take a loss on their hardware.
Plus I remember seeing some articles like this where even Samsung was worried about not being able to make money off their phones.
This is also what I was waiting for but it's going to be just below 1000$ I think.
I'll eat my hat if the Frame is under 1000 USD. And 999 don't count.
Their “priced below the Valve Index” comment had me ready for a $900 to $1,000 price initially, but after the Steam Deck price hikes, I’m worried it will be $1,200 or more. I’m really excited for it, but I will have to draw the line somewhere, price wise.
Get this to be free of the Quest
Valve is gonna bleed me dry with this one
If "Steam Frame with HL3" then same.
VR HL3 is just included, oh we forgot to announce it.

No native port of Alyx (obviously with lower graphics) would be kinda embarrassing, IMO.
I was about to say I don’t need this, I’ve already got the Index, but I just know they’re going to release another Half Life installation shortly afterwards that’ll be a slightly better experience on the Frame, in which case my fomo will likely pull the trigger for me.
I already sold my index in anticipation of the frame. Removing the tether and being able to run games without a pc were all that it took to convince me.
being able to run games without a pc
It's supposed to be limited in capability compared to streaming from a separate pc fyi
I fully understand that, and I still have my gaming pc if I want to boot up intensive games. The primary pain point with the index was when I was using already using the PC it was attached to and someone else wanted to play beatsaber or something else for a quick session (usually not super demanding games to play run)
With the frame you'll easily be able to move to a different room and play standalone, or move to another gaming pc with a single dongle instead of having to deal with the base stations and headset power, USB, and display connections.
I mean, you can do that now with a Quest 3, but I'm hoping the Frame will be a less fiddly experience, since that is the intended use case. Meta have gone out of their way to make PC gaming less friendly on their devices.
That would involve giving Meta my money.
They 'trust me.' Dumb fucks
-Zuckerberg
I bought one used, so technically I didn't give them any money ;)
How do you login to "your" quest?
I so hope this will be available in Europe outside the EU
I don't expect it, though :L
UK technically is.
