Most musical genres have some level of gatekeeping, but hardcore is one of the worst.
Banana suit joke got old in 2010 or so. It's annoying and the people wearing them are usually annoying.

If I was a singer of a band and people showed up in costumes. I would get them on stage, celebrate their whimsy, and encourage more fans to show up in costumes.
A most pit with a bunch of people in costumes, that sounds like fun.
