Audacity is dead fyi, sold out a few years ago and lost their developer base. What is left are rent seekers

Tenacity is the successor, and lives actually free - enjoy!

What do you mean by dead, it is still activdly being developed?

Not in a community fashion (as it was) is it still being actively developed. This is a commercial fork in essence now

They really are making the UI so much better.

But I hate the shepherding to make an account, or use their Muse installer, etc. It takes effort to know you can skip those things. And their game is to have your average person not know they can skip those things, while supposedly letting nerds and power users stay happy.

They are rent seeking corrupters of a very popular piece of software. They are piggy backing off of many contributors' efforts and volunteered time, and the good name that was Audacity. They should be shown the door, and hard, for what they did to Audacity.

There is a lesson here too, the branding shouldn't live with a company or person. Mastodon got a lot of heat and eventually saw sense - and this is just one example of why

Have they changed their license back to Open Source?

Wasn't there a huge fallout from them changing the license a few years back?

No think was because telemetry.

[–] gressen@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So have they fixed the telemetry issue?

[–] Olap@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago

Nope, and they 'offer' cloud integrations as an extra slap in the face.

Tenacity it is then
