Honestly not sure how I feel about Roger Penrose in general but I've started reading his Road to Reality and I really appreciate that he's genuinely trying to educate people from the ground up and basically says anyone can do it. Even if he might...slightly overestimate the starting knowledge base of the average person. But I will say I find that very relatable as a Marxist
Edit: he also doesn't uncritically talk about string theory like its the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ so I do also appreciate that
one thing that always makes me giddy is cool awesome clouds. my favorite ones are the ones that look crisp as fuckkkk like their shape is so well-defined. everyone look up at the sky today and try to see any cool clouds

Wondering about terminology, maybe those more learned on this will be able to confidently say: Would it be fair to say that imperialism (as a stage of capitalism) is essentially neo-colonialism? Or is neo-colonialism something else? I'm not sure how much it matters, but I was wondering about the development of things and how what we call imperialism today evolved in some part out of the colonial tendrils of yesterday. Like it wasn't as though capitalism came out of nowhere and then imperialism inevitably developed on top of it. And perhaps framing imperialism as something like a marriage of capitalism and colonialism helps clarify more at a glance why it is that, for example, China or Russia is not imperialist; on top of the complexities added by their past (Russia) or present (China) communist history, they did not have colonies to develop it from, so largely lacked the material base and culture with which to steer them toward imperialism.
reading a non socialist book is half getting ready for the probable anticommunist part tbh (pachinko). im doing this for school its a book i havent formed an opinion on yet, but i do think the prose is fine, theres rlly nice parts that get me out of my chair, and its nice to see imperial japan get its whackings

tbh im also going in no spoilers and the guy saying this is also a dick. the overtones of the narrative granted are explaining how wveryone works in self interest n i feel its gonna be one of those books where the summary is “Humanity Inherently Selfish We Cant Do Fairness” which. okay. either way i have appreciated how bleak the writing has been as a piece of historical fiction about imperial japan’s effect on korea.
and when im interacting with a text and talking about it to a space of ppl who are intellectually honest and not anticommunists i dont like being simplistic because it’s like well there’s fair ground to criticize these events or what happened or admit there was a personal effect to individuals but also like idk. so many diaspora texts are just like And The New Regime Led By The Socialist Homegrown Army Was Evil And Stupid As Fuck (with minimal shades of nuance) and sometimes you just gotta read around it. it comes from a sincere place as an individual, sure it cheapens and misconstrues history as a whole, but its their expression and its interesting to read
Did a Kennedymarch last night until this afternoon which is a hike of 50 miles (80km) in 20 hours. It was such an assault on my body lol. Can't imagine being forced to do something like this while fleeing war or something.
My number had a picture of Kennedy on it and did luckily fade really quick.

the central asians ik have varying opinions on the war but one of my friends who is also a bit russian is a pro ukrainian type (as in has told me about the phrase slava ukraini under the complete notion that it is a harmless innocuous phrase to ‘express independence’ or whatever, but genuinely doesnt seem to know about the war itself or the donbass or any of the neonazi aspects when i probe her). im not going to be an overtly hostile dickhead because it’s also clear they don’t like themselves or their ethnicity or others of it, are very westernizrd, and i can sympathize to en extentwith those with a blanket anti-war sentiment, but it’s also intensely frustrating as the propaganda/info war has made it so if i bring up any point like that it’ll be met with harsh and unending resistance (even if i used the pre-2022 western sources)

This isn't the first time physical and analog media and technology has taken a blow.
This won't be the last.
It could be that this feels like a "watershed moment" for me only.

Physical disks were one of the reasons why Playstation 2 was the most popular console ever. This decision is betrayal.
i think more people should use freechat it feels so niceys there. as a wee lad i used to get like a pavlovian response to when an otherwise stiff and serious building i was in had any sort of restaurant or signage that had a restaurant icon which feels similar to how i feel seeing a place called ‘freechat’. im very easily pleased
